Site Evaluations
Presenter
Keri Brophy-Martinez
Minutes
The two separate forms for the blood bank covering screens and crossmatch have been combined into one form. Copies of this form have been sent out to blood banks but we have not received any feedback yet.
Student clinical evaluations:
After it was stated that there is too much paperwork and that there are difficulties to understanding and filling it all out, ideas were made to simplify the evaluation form. During the meeting, a template was provided that will be beta tested in the Spring and Summer semesters. Several minor issues were found with this form concerning grade calculation and the department will be working them out. Instead of using a form where the mentor has to assign a grade number we will be using a format where the mentor will be using numbers 1-4. Mentors just check what they feel applies. This system takes out the letter grade. The form is to be tested in the spring when students begin their clinical. There are still two other templets that are being discussed. There are also concerns about filling the form out in front of the students or filling out the forms and then handing them to the students to turn in.
Idea on making the form easier to understand:
Dropping down from 1-4 to 1-3
We will be asking for feedback on the new forms.

MLT can currently take up to 24 students. Number of students in the program is limited by the number of clinical sites. Current number of students is 12 in each lab. There are currently 23 students in the MLT class.
Students are encouraged to take certificate exam within 3 months of graduating. A link will be given to view board of certification exam results for our program vs. national results.
215-216
There is expected to be a full 24 students enroll.
There was a discussion covering all of the changes made to the program throughout the years.
Phlebotomy has been removed from the MLT degree plan. Students must show proof of having a degree or certificate for phlebotomy or the student can document that they are eligible per ASCP to sit for the certification exam.
Discussed changes made to the Degree Plan for the coming year. Intro to Anatomy and Psychology will be removed from the degree plan. However, A & P will be covered in MLT specific courses where it is relevant. Math and medical terminology will be removed, and a credit will be added to Microbiology and clinical 3 course’s current credits. Will create a template stating how math is taught in each class. Have gotten permission to get a new ID/Sensitivity machine for the microbiology course to assist with meeting course objectives due to reduction in clinical Microbiology sites.
