Presenter
Minutes
1. Number of Graduates - Summer 2016 - started with 21, 14 graduated- 2 were distance learners
Offer distance learning path for 2nd year (all MLT students) // Facility’s responsibility to train students
Lack of motivation / Academics are issue- this is main reason for attrition - As of now, students are “highly recommended” to visit during office hours if they make less than 75 on a course exam. We will change our syllabi to make it mandatory to come when scores below 75% are made on course exams.
2. 2016-2017 Cohort - Started with 20 students, currently have 16
3. 2017-2018 Cohort- expect a full class of 24 students, applicant pool very strong
4. ASCP Board of Certification Results results: http://www.austincc.edu/mlt/mlt_boc
2016 Graduates: From the 16 graduates- 6 passed BOC, 2 failed, and 6 have not taken
On average, test scores decrease after being out of the program for 6 months
Some schools require board certification (only up to 5 years after program to sit for the exam)
Our 3-year pass rate is 91%
In the areas of Blood bank and Microbiology, scores have increased due to the ramped up onsite rotations in addition to externships.

Curriculum Input Needed
Presenter
Minutes
1. On-Site clinical. Input is needed to determine the specific skills common to all clinical laboratories to focus on during on-site clinical. Would like to set up focus groups with appropriate ACC faculty to set curriculum and standards of practice for commonly performed tests.
No feedback.
2. Need input from clinical practitioners on competencies established at ACC for both on-site and off-site (in the actual clinical laboratory) to establish entry-level practices. Suggestions for additions and deletions in the documents created.
Follow up from things brought up last year:
a. Pipetting sections added from last year (old and new versions)
b. Hand sticks from last year (two additional opportunities added)
3. Competency assessment is routine in the clinical laboratory. ACC wishes to mirror these activities and need input. Which skills need to be observed? Which skills are evaluated based on results obtained with remediation and additional practice offered if the skills is failed? Which part of a competency are 'essential,' resulting in a failure, versus requiring remediation but allowed to pass?
No feedback.
