Approval of Minutes from October 19, 2018

Gary Brown moved to approve the minutes from the October 19, 2018 meeting, it was seconded by Jim Pumphret. Minutes were approved by the Advisory Committee members in attendance.

Update on ACC Accounting Student Organization Activities: ALPFA, Community Tax Centers, TSCPA Student Membership Drive and Activities, NASBA/CPT

ALPFA had some events planned for the Fall Semester, had the CEO of Russell's bakery come to speak with them at their Fall meeting. They had a Regional meeting out of town, and were able to send students with the Faculty Advisors. The current data of the name of the students for the Community Tax Program was not available at the time of the meeting. TSCPA Student membership drive was successful. They also had a Resume and Interview Workshop with over 30 students in attendance, there were over 25 CPAs that had volunteer for this event. Debriefing by Tracie Miller and Larry Stephens. The Spring Semester was tough due to the Tax season.

Department Chair Update

Reed reported on the OIEA - Declared majors in the Tax Specialist Program. The Professional Accounting Advanced Technical Certificate over 30 hrs. There was discussion on how to effectively Advertise the Professional Accountant program, will check with the Marketing Department. one suggestion was to go through social media on Facebook and Twitter and it be linked to the Accounting Department Webpage. Larry Stephens reported on NASBA membership and the advantages on the students participation. Trying to incorporate the Student Club into the chapter. Tracie mentioned the IMA Scholarship offeras a member of IMA the students could take the IMA Certification. She is putting together the application and paperwork necessary for the students.

Update on Accounting Technician Program and Student Internships
Jay Thibodeaux
Jay reported that the Associate of Applied Science Specialist Degree and the Advanced Specialist Advance Certificate will be online only. The Technician program has added the Occupational Skills Award, we will also be adding the Quickbooks Certificate and the Advanced Bookkeeping Skills Award with 17 hours credit, the first courses will be during the first 8 weeks of the semester and the next courses will be during the 2nd 8 weeks of the Semester. Jay also reporated that we placed two students with Apple Internships. Chase Insogna suggested that someone from the outside industry attend the President's Reception for AISD to be held on May 14th from 6:00-8:00pm. Suggested program activity with the FBI and other agencies to bring students into the Accounting field. There was some discussion on he recruitment of foreign students with higher degrees into the Accounting programs.

Discussion on Certificate courses and how to what it level it is desired. Larry also mentioned two upcoming meetings. the TACTYC Annual Conference to be held in Ft. Worth on May 16-18, 2019 and the Texas Accounting Educators Conference on October, 2019.
