ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
Meeting Date: February 19, 2008
I. Welcome and Introductions
A. Attendance - Present: John Tiede, Frank Toto, Audrea Moyers, Don Fletcher, Brett Burke, Doug Smith, Tony Ramirez, Ashleigh Fuller, Trang Ong, Jeffrey Briseno, Linda Smarzik, Erlene Clark, and Matt Wilson.
B. Meeting was called to order at 4:45pm by Doug Smith and John Tiede.
C. Each person introduced themselves and described their backgrounds.
a. Doug Smith explains what Tech Prep is.
b. Audrea Moyers complimented the department as how prepare and organize it is – in regards to providing lesson plans, syllabus, etc… for the Tech Prep
II. Departmental Overview
A. Doug presented the A&E CAD Department new website.
a. Show the committee the Advisory Committee webpage
b. Asked the committee if they would like to have their site to be link to ours.
B. AutoCAD Learning Center tuition collected – as of January $160,000
a. Previous years - 2007: $217,965
III. Survey of Committee Members on Industry Trends
A. Survey Results:
a. What is the Principal focus of your organization or industry?
i. Supplies low-cost electricity to Central Texas, manages water supplies &floods. Develops water & wastewater utilities

e. What trends do you see in Engineering Graphics/CAD that the A&E CAD Department will/may need to respond to in the foreseeable future (up to five years if possible)?
i. Increase in sophistication of computer verification and modeling tools. Integration of components in design flow.
ii. More manual CACC’s, unit conversion, key in commands
iii. Transmission of power from new power plants ic wind farms; big push by LCRA to supply lines and towers to move powers from locations
f. If your organization has hired A&E CAD Students (since the last advisory meeting), what is you assessment of the skill levels of these individuals when they were initially hired? What could be improved?
i. Skills provide aviltiy of new employees to become productive team members almost immediately; in-house instruction is not provided in an organized planned way.
ii. Knowledge about basic CADD & Civil applications
iii. Fair to good, continuing education is essential, especially with regards to modeling and using parametric drafting programs.
