After much discussion within the program, with you, our Advisory Board, and with other community colleges around the state of Texas, we have arrived at the following reduction plan to meet the requirement. Specifically, we will institute the following changes: • HITT 1305 Medical Terminology will be reduced from 3 credit hours to 1 credit hour • HITT 1353 Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Information will be reduced from 3 credit hours to 2 credit hours • HITT1349 Pharmacology will be reduced from 3 credit hours to 2 credit hours • HPRS 2301 Pathophysiology will be reduced from 3 credit hours to 2 credit hours • HITT 1260 Clinical – will be reduced from 2 credit hours to 1 credit hour • HITT 2249 RHIT Competency Review will be reduced from 2 credit hours to 1 credit hour • HITT 2360 Clinical – will be reduced from 3 credit hours to 2 credit hours As you will note the coding courses were not reduced due to the fact that we are now teaching ICD-10- CM and need all of the lecture hours for those courses. The Health Information Technology Program arrived at these changes based on a review of the newest Entry Level Competencies, as developed by the Council for Excellence in Education – Health Informatics and Health Information Management. A review of the curriculum map as well as a review of the outcomes from the first students who have completed the RHIT exam provided the framework necessary to determine where cuts could be made in the ACC curriculum without sacrificing required and much needed coursework for program completers. The ACC program also collaborated with the other community college programs across the state to make sure that the courses in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board inventory of approved courses offered the content needed to support our programmatic changes. Attached you will find the revised degree plan. I have highlighted in yellow the courses where reductions in credit hours will be implemented. Should you have questions or concerns, please call me! We will need an email response from you by no later than Thursday at 12 noon indicating your willingness to support the curriculum revisions, as this is a requirement for The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Please indicated by way of a returned email that you are in support of the new 60 degree plan.
