Description
Human Services Class Substitution Request
Presenter
John, Byron
Minutes
It was requested the Deaf Community class be removed from the IPP AAS degree and Deaf Culture be substituted in its place (to be moved into year 'one' of the degree plan). Byron advised this would be completed when WECM revisions go into effect Fall 1999.
3)
Description
Developmental Vocabulary Class
Presenter
Byron, Lynn, Deborah
Minutes
The requirement of a developmental vocabulary class is being considered to improve English skills. A 'screening' tool could identify borderline students so that measures could be taken to bring them to the appropriate level. The idea would be to reach those students at the end of the spring semester (because ASL III and IV are offered in the summer) and prepare them for fall classes, rather than have them get into the classes and not be ready. Deborah also recommended professional development classes for Interpreters in the community.
4)
Description
Advanced Cert./ASL Classes through Continuing Education
Presenter
Lynn, Byron, John
Minutes
Discussion was held on offering advanced certification classes and advanced ASL classes through Continuing Education. These advanced classes would also be beneficial to those who are not pursuing a degree in the field. John noted Continuing Education instructors are not compensated the same as academic credit-earning instructors.
5)
Description
Curriculum Decisions
Presenter
Lynn
Minutes
Proposed changes to the IPP degree plan were discussed and approved and will be submitted to the Coordinating Board. The Certificate will remain the same.
6)

Presenter
Minutes
Meeting adjourned at 5:15p.m.
7)
Description
Job Posting
Presenter
Lynn Beaman
Minutes
Job posting applicants previously interviewed in spring of 1998 did not bring forth qualified applicants. Position could be re-posted in January (position has strong support from upper administration).
8)
Description
Internships
Presenter
Brad, Lynn, Byron, John, Holly
Minutes
Discussion was held on whether or not students can complete internships in their own home town (in-state and out-of-state) instead of Austin. Internships are normally conducted in Austin with supervisors available for mentoring. Out-of-state internships would be considered, but not encouraged. John suggested internships be served in the spring semesters prior to graduation.
9)
Description
New Business
Presenter
Byron Bridges
Minutes
Reported CIT conference in Utah proved to be very beneficial. In comparison to other programs, the IPP program at ACC is very advanced. Contacts will soon be made to increase resource sharing within the program.

Description
IPP Program
Presenter
Lynn, Byron
Minutes
The 1999 FY budget provided $8,000 for the purchase of new IPP Lab equipment. Recommendations are needed in finding the most effective use of the money. The transition of all ASL classes from Robbins Academy to RGC has allowed for better planning/development of the IPP program.
11)
Description
ACC/Region 13
Presenter
Holly Warren-Norman
Minutes
Discussed ACC/Region 13 efforts in the school district. It was suggested ACC offer ASLI III evening classes. A recommendation was made to conduct a survey of IPP graduates and their place of employment (students are being trained to work primarily with adults).
12)
Description
New Classes
