Presently, there are 30 students in the IPP and 310 students are in ASL classes. One-third of IPP graduates have gone into the field of educational Interpreting; one-third are employed by ACC and one-third are doing community interpreting. Byron reported that Nathie has done a great job of turning out high quality ASL students which ultimately benefits the IPP. SACS is now requiring standardized syllabi. We will begin usage of standardized syllabi Spring 2003. Nathie reported there is new curriculum for teaching ASL levels I-III to high school students. The curriculum includes a CD-ROM, teaching style methods, homework the students will need, etc. and will be available April 2003. Action Taken: Nathie will soon share additional information with department Adjuncts who teach ASL to high school students.

Internship sites - John advised ACC has mentorships available for ASL level I-III students. Nancy stated AISD does not have an official mentoring program, but they do have 'team' interpreting and she would be happy to incorporate ACC interpreters. Ginger suggested the same be done in Round Rock ISD. John recommended students create a portfolio to send to potential employers prior to graduation (i.e., a videotape with both educational and community interpreting). Action Taken: Byron will follow-up with AISD and RISD; and he will also add the portfolio notation to Internship class requirements.
