1)
CISA degree plan update
Mary Kohls (Department chair of CIS)

Three courses fit really well. Other courses will require modification to fit the exam/degree (the CIS courses tend to cover more than what is required for knowledge on the exam). We have ordered sample tests for the CIS department to review to ensure that the enlightment matches in the courses. CIS department is excited about working with the accounting department to get this degree up and running.

2)
Review and approval of minutes (5/3 and 10/25)
Tracie Nobles

Chris moves to approve, Kate seconds. Unanimous approval of the minutes.

3)
COVID-Update
Dr. Reed Peoples

We are completely online for both Spring and Summer. Right now there is no decision for Fall the administration is meeting to make a decision. Training of faculty began in mid-March. A mentor was assigned to every faculty member who had never taught online. Provided syllabus, course materials, exams to all faculty for the online environment. ACCT2301/2302 are taking their exams online (not proctored but timed). Upper level accounting courses are taking proctored exams. For the summer, all exams will be online, proctored, and timed using Proctor U and Respondus Monitor. TSBPA has extended the ability for students to take online courses and also online proctoring of exams. Students are being offered Incompletes instead of withdrawing from the course. The student can complete the course through the Fall semester at no additional cost to the student. If an incomplete is not completed, it will be changed to a W (instead of an F). The advisory committee shared that the accounting profession is strong and that they are busier than ever since COVID. Communicating this message to our students is very important. The legislation changes from COVID has increased the need of CPAs. The committee has emphasized the need for technology skills (CISA skill set, AIS, and QB), and data/business analysis, business intelligence for our students. Hiring of students for employment opportunities since COVID changes. Suggested that the department look into a virtual job fair through the use of break-out rooms (example from Small Business Expo - https://www.thesmallbusinessexpo.com). TXCPA has a job board that includes chapter postings (careers.tscpa.org). Resume/Interview workshop could be converted to an online/virtual environment. Tracie will work with Linda (TXCPA Austin chapter) for a summer event.

a. This year ACC has been going through a process of identifying unique/innovative proposals that are tied to four themes. Each Area of Study produced three proposals. Business study suggested (1) business accelerator which will be a focal point for business studies, (2) strengthening student services to business students, (3) development of business analytics certificates (three offerings) which would be targeted at “current” students and also employers who have employees who need these skills. Project Management with DA, Accounting Analytics Certificate, and Data Analytics. Proposals have been sent to the steering committee and then will be sent forward to administration. As of this time, we don’t know if any of the proposals will be selected. b. Gary Brown made a motion to develop an accounting analytics certificate program. Lisa Stretenovic seconded. Vote passed unanimously.

This course is for our technician students. b. Kate shared that the CPA swearing in has been cancelled for this spring. c. Chase requested information about how COVID will impact the future semesters (beyond Fall). Dr. Peoples shared that he still sees students wanting face-to-face classrooms.
