Committee Business
1. Welcome! Update on Structure, Functions, and Membership of C&P (Gaye Lynn Scott) Gaye Lynn welcomed new and returning members to the committee, as well as presenters. The Curriculum and Programs Committee is deeply committed to shared governance structure: councils, committee, workgroups, task forces participation. It’s about inclusivity. This committee is under the Academic and Student Affairs Council (ASAC). Members on this committee take the work of the committee seriously. It is central to everything we do for students and their success. See the current statement of functions online and in this agenda; they were recently updated to be more specific. These are official functions blessed by ASAC. 2020-21 membership was also rebalanced. Members will need to learn how to train their eyes to follow agenda in this virtual environment and become familiar with the functions and expectations. Scope and breadth of programs represented in C&P proposals are college-wide. 2. Field of Study Suspended Programs (Gretchen Riehl, Gaye Lynn Scott) Fields of Study (FOS) – Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) provides rules Texas universities and colleges must follow. FOS curriculum is designed to ease transfer from community colleges to 4-year colleges. Transfer degrees are AA and AS which include 42-hour core plus additional hours in discipline. FOS allows transfer without entire 42-hour core. Students who transfer do not lose credit. THECB suspended until further notice some FOS programs. See page 7 of agenda. FOS help students transfer without having to repeat courses. ACC will need to change affected awards due to this change. The following awards need to be revised to include complete core curriculum requirements. a. Fine Arts - Studio Art AA does not include all Core Curriculum Course requirements: missing component area 080 - Social and Behavioral Sciences b. Math AS does not include all Core Curriculum Course requirements: missing component area 050 - Creative Arts 3. Core Curriculum Update (Ron Johns) – formal expiration of MATH 1316 MATH 1316 Trigonometry expired from ACC Catalog last year. Need to submit formal expiration to THECB in order to remove course from the Core Curriculum Course List. Jonathan Buckstead motioned to accept expiration of MATH 1316 from the Core Curriculum; seconded by Brandon Whatley. Approved. 4. Master Syllabus Changes (Ron Johns) – Pandemic Version Fall 2020 Template for ACC’s Master Syllabus allows standardization of information across all programs. A COVID-19 pandemic version of the Master syllabus was created to address the current times. Agenda shows components which have been altered since initial creation of the pandemic version. Revisions include additional Health and Safety information and the recording policy for online classes; Library Services was also updated. Tomi Welch motioned to approve revised pandemic version of the Master Syllabus; seconded Matthew Daude Laurents. Approved. 5. Minutes – May 8, 2020 Corrections Needed: Item 2, there is a typo: GIST 2382 should be HIST 2382 On page 2: missing the word ‘Discussion’ at top of the page Jonathan Buckstead motioned to approve minutes with corrections; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved
