Building Construction Technology
Joey Case
Add NEW Award – Higher Level Award in Program CIP 46.0302 Note: CIP assignment was approved under the current Construction Management AAS Program CIP 52.2001 Construction Management - Electrical Specialization AAS – the new Construction Management - Electrical Specialization Level 1 Certificate approved at October 21, 2022 C&P Meeting will stack into this new AAS Joey presented. Brandon asked the Committee about Program CIP 46.0302, which is assigned to the new Construction Management - Electrical Specialization Level 1 Certificate approved at the last C&P meeting; this new AAS has expanded curriculum in construction management and is not predominately focused on a pathway to employment in the electrical construction field - if this AAS is assigned to existing Construction Management AAS Program CIP 52.2001, will that affect Financial Aid or cause any other reporting issues? Jason Edens, Financial Aid and Compliance Director, said the CIP code is not a factor when determining eligibility for Financial Aid; if all the courses in the certificate stack into the AAS, then there is not an issue. No issues with reporting were identified either. Jorge Lynch motioned to approve; seconded by Ron Johns. Approved with CIP assignment 52.2001; Board of Trustees approval is not required. Post meeting note: It was discovered that one course in the Level 1 Certificate is not included in the new AAS, there are some credit hour errors in the new AAS award plan, and elective course options need to be added to the new AAS program map’s advising notes. Joey will return to the Curriculum and Programs Committee with the edited new AAS for review and re-approval at the January meeting.

Drama
Marcus McQuirter
Add NEW Award – will be added to existing Drama AA Program CIP 50.0501 Drama, with Musical Theater Concentration AA – compatible with and comparable to the first two years of Drama education at other universities and colleges offering a range of courses designed to establish competency in voice production, dance, and acting; whereas the current Drama AA offers a range of courses designed to establish competency in performance, production, dramatic literature, and theater history Marcus presented. Committee members were very supportive of this new degree. Daniel discussed CIP assignments as it relates to KSAs (knowledge, skills, abilities) and credentials of value (matched to labor market information). He recommended assigning CIP 50.0509, Musical Theatre, rather than 50.0501, Drama and Dramatics/Theatre Arts, General. Discussion followed on the merits of revising the CIP code or keeping it under the current Drama AA CIP code. Also, Jorge Lynch discovered in the proposal, that edits will need to be made to Mathematics credit hours, as well as to total semester credit hours: Mathematics in Semester II should be 3-4 credits, total semester hours 15-16 SCH; Semester III’s total semester hours should be 14-15 SCH; Semester IV’s total credit credits should be 15-16 SCH; and total award plan hours should be corrected to 60-63 SCH. Mathew Daude motioned to approve; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved with edits to semester hours and total award plan hours. Daniel Chupe-O’Hanlon, Office of Institutional Research and Analytics Labor Market Researcher/Institutional Research Analyst, is still working on the new award’s Program LMI (Labor Market Information) report; he will provide data on recommended CIP 50.0509 to compare with 50.0501. Post meeting note: based on Daniel’s report received 11/18/22, it was determined that CIP 50.0509 Musical Theatre was a better match. The new AA will be titled Musical Theater and assigned CIP 50.0509.

Committee Business
1. Badging Update (Gretchen Riehl) Gretchen requested for the members to share their thoughts on what the approval process for badging should be and what role the Curriculum and Programs Committee should serve in that process. Discussion followed. There was a question on the design of the badges and marketing - is ACC going to follow the broader economic/ international badging formats? Gretchen mentioned that TLED, led by Susan Thomason, is managing badging design needs. Some other questions from the members: How are the badges going to be tracked for reporting? Will these be reportable/fundable and how will these stack into program maps? What about transferable skills? How will ACC ensure their value in order to be recognized by the job market? It was mentioned that these badges will be vetted and validated by ACC’s industry partners. There was previous discussion on incorporating applicable badges into award plans’ program maps, particularly in Workforce OSA award plans. Gretchen also mentioned that the subcommittee is working on incorporating the QEP into badging. It was asked how will the QEP “micro credentials” be distinguish from other badges? Gaye Lynn, Jorge, Matthew, Ron, and others agreed that there is a need to establish a protocol for approving and measuring badges awarded by ACC; and that the C&P Committee needs to review and approve official curriculum-based badges. Recommendations: first define what a badge is at ACC, such as “a series of non-credit training in specific skills”, and then to distinguish what are discipline specific skills (opposed to professional development skills) and how they are separate from the curriculum course - there may be a single skill embedded in a course that can warrant earning a badge; others will not. Gretchen mentioned that the subcommittee plans to implement badging this spring, beginning with the Advanced Manufacturing and QEP programs; these programs can be used to pilot badging at ACC. She will meet with the subcommittee and share the feedback and questions from the C&P members. She will provide an update at the January 20th C&P meeting and present a proposal on the badging pilot program. 2. Minutes – October 21, 2022 (See Draft) Brandon Whatley motioned to approve; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved.
