ELAR Diagnostic Score Update
Presenter
Ursula Parker
Minutes
Information Update: Ursula Parker
Main change in the diagnostic placement chart – the biggest changes for this particular diagnostic chart are:
The diagnostic 1 to 2; regardless of essay score students testing in the 1-2 diagnostic range will need to be referred to Adult Education, Continuing Education, and/or ESOL. A diagnostic of 3; with an essay of 1-5; they start entry INRW 0420.
A diagnostic of 3; with an essay of 6-8; will try to place them in an exit level.
Roxane Royalty asked question regarding the diagnostic 1 to 2 – is there going to be something within INRW similar to Math Launch? Ursula Parker suggested possibilities and the ongoing discussions concerning this. Susan Gusler reminded the group about the College Prep program as a potential resource for these students.
Ursala Parker expressed their deliberate efforts to transfer students to ESOL if they need it, but there are more parts to consider when referring students to ESOL. They are working with Susan Das and ESOL to help make the transition smoother.
Susan Gusler commented on Adult Education and capacity: The demand for the basic free ESL classes has “skyrocketed”. The waitlist has over 1000 on it. She expressed her appreciation for ESOL because of the huge demand.
This updated diagnostic chart is official as of today (2-24-2023) and has been approved.
