Automated Student Withdrawal Report
Tobin Quereau
The subcommittee appointed last spring to review the possibility of creating a student online withdrawal system and make a recommendation to SASC. Subcommittee members included Tobin Quereau, Mary Parker, Carol Townsend, Paul Duffy, Hazel Ward, Angular Adams, Andrew Christie, Richard Armenta. Committee members brainstormed several issues associated with student withdrawal. Some of those included: major impact on the Datatel System when a great number withdraw at one time, student information needed online, consequences of withdrawal on Financial Aid, grades, notification of faculty and many others (see handout attached). Angular Adams, Mary Parker and Paul Duffy have previously set up a website http://www.austincc.edu/withdraw/ . The subcommittee agreed the site could be used for students with some adjustments. Dr. Armenta asked members to click on the website; become familiar with the process; and send suggestions and comments to him or Tobin Quereau (rarmenta@austincc.edu. Quereau@austincc.edu). At the next SASC meeting, a recommendation will be formulated and sent to SSC. Most likely it will need to go to several other college committees before it can be adopted and become an Administrative Rule. SASC members then discussed some of the items that need to be clarified such as: is it trackable, is it connected to Datatel, Financial Aid and other consequences of withdrawal, would online withdrawal trigger mandatory contact or follow-up by college staff? Dr. Christensen identified two main goals for putting student withdrawal online: (1) Reduce attrition (2) Make the process paperless The charge to the Student Access and Success Committee is to look at the website, send suggestions, and share with colleagues.
5)
ACC Quality Enhancement Plan, QEP
Soon Merz
Soon Merz explained that QEP is relevant to SACS accreditation. The QEP is faculty driven, broad-based engagement of faculty, staff, students and community. The website is www.austincc.edu/sacs/QEP. The QEP Committee is seeking recommendations on possible QEP topics related to student learning. Four to six topics will be chosen by the Student Success Initiative Steering Committee. The next step will involve a grant proposal process to determine the final topic. AQEP plan development committee will be former to develop the final plan. Soon was asked how we stand on H S I status. She says they have just gotten the appropriate formula and have determined that ACC met the criteria in 2009. She did not know yet if we have met it for 2010. However, the federal government is two years behind and it would not be possible to have the designation until possibly 2012.
