EC-6 Grade Levels AAT – CIP 13.1210: removing expired MATH 1425, adding MATH 1414 in Mathematics course options; replacing Oral Communications course options with SPCH 1315; adding ENGL 2341 and ENGL 2351 to Language, Philosophy, and Culture Restricted Elective course options; updating Life and Physical Sciences note to include TechTeach requirement
Jeanie McGough and Giao Phan presented. Discussion on adding a note to SPCH 1315 that lists the acceptable optional courses in order to reduce substitutions. SPCH 1311 and SPCH 1321 are also acceptable by transfer institutions…
Jorge Lynch motioned to approve proposed updates with modification to add a note to SPCH 1315 as discussed; seconded by Grant Potts. Approved.
4-8 Grade Levels AAT – CIP 13.1203: removing expired MATH 1425, adding MATH 1414 in Mathematics course options; replacing Oral Communications course options with SPCH 1315; adding ENGL 2341 and ENGL 2351 to Language, Philosophy, and Culture Restricted Elective course options; clarifying Life and Physical Sciences notes in Semester II and III to select 4 credit hour courses; changing Life and Physical Sciences credit hours in Semester IV to 3-4
Cathy Angell motioned to approve proposed updates with the same modification as the EC-6 Grade Levels AAT to add a note to SPCH 1315; seconded by Victoria Taylor. Approved.
8-12 Grade Levels AAT – CIP Code: 13.1205: removing expired MATH 1425, adding MATH 1414 to Mathematics course options; replacing SPCH 1311 with SPCH 1315; adding ENGL 2341 and ENGL 2351 to Language, Philosophy, and Culture Restricted Elective course options, adding ITAL and KORE level 1 and level 2 courses to World Languages course options; adding ANTH 2302, ECON 2301, GEOG 1302, GOVT 2304, SOCI 1301, SOCI 1306 to Social and Behavioral Sciences course options; adding ENGL 2341, ENGL 2351 and deleting MATH 1425 from Restricted Elective course options
Jeanie mentioned that in addition to the proposed updates to the 8-12 AAT, she is requesting assistance from the C&P Committee members with bringing this award in compliance with the 60 minimum credit hours requirement - a lab component is required for one of the Life and Physical Sciences which means that the credit hours will need to reflect 4, not 3-4; this will cause the award plan hours to total 61-64.
Discussion followed and the following amendments were suggested:
Semester I - replace EDUC 1100 with EDUC 1300 OR HUMA 1301 topic course Great Questions Seminar and add a note that students with 12 or more SCH can select from the Language Philosophy, and Culture Restricted Elective courses moved from Semester II, once prerequisites are met; move HIST 1301 to Semester II; add note to SPCH 1315 listing SPCH 1311 and SPCH 1321 as optional courses
Semester II – add HIST 1301 from Semester I; move HIST 1302 to Semester III; move Language, Philosophy, and Culture to EDUC 1300 note in Semester I
Semester II – add HIST 1302 from Semester II
Semester IV – remove SOCI 1303 from Social and Behavioral Sciences course options since it is not part of the Core Curriculum Course List
Grant Potts motioned to approve with amendments; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved.
Action Item: Jeanie will edit the proposed program map as discussed and send to Georgia Branch for processing. Also Ron Johns had previously suggested revising the Social and Behavioral Sciences note to state select any course from that section of the Core Curriculum Course List so Jeanie will make that edit as well, instead of just removing SOCI 1303.

1. Reminder to utilize latest Curriculum & Programs Committee Forms, updated June 2022, and inform others in our respective programs/departments/associations (see: Forms Inventory – Instruction)

b. Program Revision (Form INSS.003)
c. Program/Award Expiration (Form INSS.004)
d. Request for Course Capacity Adjustment (Form INSS.005)
e. New Location Request (Form INSS.006)
Gretchen reminded committee member that the forms were updated this academic year with SACSCOC recommendations and to please use and share these versions for all future proposals; updated forms are posted on the Forms Inventory and on the Schedule Development site.
2. LMI/SOC Codes Discussion
a. A process and support system need to be developed for departments to participate in a systematic review of their program’s CIP and SOC codes to ensure appropriate alignment with labor market outcomes and the current CIP code inventory
Note: LMI includes jobs, earnings, completions, etc. SOC Codes are the occupations classification.
Daniel Chupe-O'Hanlon announced his new position as Curriculum Analyst in TLED. He will support programs with Labor Market data tied to their curriculum and lead the development of a plan to review/update LMI/SOC Codes and accompanying processes and procedures, among other projects.
b. Revising the LMI related statement (page 2, no. 15) on the following Curriculum & Programs Committee forms to include alignment with SOC codes:
i. Proposed New Program (Form INSS.002)
ii. Program Revision (Form INSS.003)
Gretchen suggested developing a small workgroup led by Daniel; she asked for volunteers. Dawn Allison volunteered; one more member for this group is needed - Gretchen will recruit someone. Daniel will provide an update to the C&P Committee at April’s meeting. The Program Revision form may not need revising since LMI data is typically not affected unless there is a substantial change to the program.
3. Status of updated Core Curriculum Course List for Catalog 2023-24: adding GOVT 2311 – still pending approval from THECB
Don Becker is proxy for Ron Johns: no updates; still pending approval from THECB.
4. Master Syllabus Template: https://offices.austincc.edu/institutional-effectiveness-and-grant-development/master-syllabus-checklist-template/ – rollout of the college policies link in Blackboard has gone off very smoothly with no reported questions or issues
Gretchen mentioned that college policies used to be included in the syllabus, making it extremely long and not very user friendly. They are now incorporated into the Blackboard course shell and it seems to be working well.
5. Minutes – February 17, 2023 (See Draft)
Victoria Taylor motioned to approve; seconded by Brandon Whatley. Approved.
