Advanced Manufacturing Program – Continuing Education
Presenter
Laura Marmolejo and Beatriz Weakley
Minutes
Add NEW CE Award – Effective Spring 2024 A) CE Tesla MDP OSA – adding Tesla Manufacturing Development Program (MDP) Occupational Skills Award totaling 272 contact hours, CIP 15.0613 - Manufacturing Engineering Technology/Technician Beatriz Weakley presented. This new OSA is in a high demand industry; it will prepare students for entry-level production jobs at Tesla. CE has been offering the classes in this award; this new OSA will provide the credential to show completion. Gretchen mentioned that this will align with the new state House Bill 8 community college funding model. Revise CE Award from C1 to OSA – Effective Spring 2024 B) CE Manufacturing Production Level 1 Certificate (CE.MNFT.PRDCT.CERT, CIP 15.0613 correction post meeting: current C1 CIP is 15.0303; will be updated to 15.0613) – removing internship course INMT 2089 and changing award from CE Level 1 Certificate totaling 384 contact hours to CE OSA totaling 160 contact hours Beatriz Weakley presented. This award is also in a high demand industry. The internship course is not needed; students are employable without it. Removing the internship course reduces the contact hours so students will be able to complete and earn their credential faster. This CE Manufacturing Production program will no longer qualify as a Level One Certificate, by the current THECB standards; therefore, it will be reclassified as an Occupational Skills Award. A: Jonathan Buckstead motioned to approve; Cathy Angell seconded. Approved. B: Jonathan Buckstead motioned to approve; Rebecca Czuchry seconded. Approved.

Gretchen Riehl presenting for Brian Bocknack
Minutes
Modify Courses – updating course prerequisites CHEM 1105 Introductory Chemistry I - Lab (1-0-3) CHEM 1109 General Chemistry for Engineering Majors - Lab (1-0-3) CHEM 1111 General Chemistry I - Lab (1-0-3) CHEM 1112 General Chemistry II - Lab (1-0-3) CHEM 1305 Introductory Chemistry I - Lecture (3-3-0) CHEM 1309 General Chemistry for Engineering Majors - Lecture (3-3-0) CHEM 1311 General Chemistry I - Lecture (3-3-0) CHEM 1312 General Chemistry II - Lecture (3-3-0) Gretchen Riehl presented for Brian Bocknack. There was a question about CHEM 1309 General Chemistry for Engineering Majors – Lecture and CHEM 1109 General Chemistry for Engineering Majors – Lab not including MATH 1314 as a prerequisite Math option since CHEM 1111/ CHEM 1311 and CHEM 1112/CHEM 1312 does. Brian should clarify whether this was intentional and not an oversight. Jorge Lynch motioned; Jonathan Buckstead seconded. Approved, except: CHEM 1109/1309. Jonathan Buckstead motioned; Jorge Lynch seconded for CHEM 1109/1309 to be provisionally approved upon clarification from Brian Bocknack. Gretchen obtained confirmation from Brian: MATH 1414 is the correct prerequisite; this item is now officially approved. Post meeting note 11/17/23: Brian Bocknack has agreed to include MATH 1314 as an optional prerequisite course to MATH 1414 for CHEM 1109/CHEM 1309 so as not to cause unintended issues for students pursuing the Bachelor of Applied Technology in Manufacturing Engineering Technology degree.
