Minutes

Dr. Tamez: Executive Dean of Student Affairs, Northern Region provided the committee with an overview of recommended updates and changes to the Student Standards of Conduct & Disciplinary Process. Some of the major changes were definitions of terms related to the existing Conduct and Disciplinary process. This was done to aid students in having a better understanding of commonly used terms. Myles: How are behavior/ conduct allegations dealt with when student organizations are outside of ACC jurisdictions? Answered by Troy- The Code of conduct applies to all group organizations due to their representation of ACC. Furthermore, such groups must be officially recognized or registered groups within ACC’s Student Life. Dr. Almasy: Several years back she and Emily Olsen led a group with the goal of clarifying the Academic Dishonesty process; however, no amendments were made since 2022. Answered by Jim: Thank you Nina. But we should go with today’s changes due to language from the past. Patty: There is not much change to the process when dealing with Academic Dishonesty or misconduct. Eileen: When we are referring to ACC groups, it must be stated “Registered ACC Group”. Charlene: Board Policy is the College Policy. You find answers to your questions in the Board Policy. Dr. Tate: “Master Syllabus” should be the standard for all faculty to ensure consistency among the ACC District. Mervin: Clarification on Dr. Tate’s comments, instructor initiated withdrawals cannot be done for conduct reasons. Dr. Tate: What is next in the process of updates? Mervin: Once all changes have been made. The Student Affairs Deans will review and recommend changes and additions as needed. After the Deans review it, ACC lawyers will review, and finally, it will be shared and decided upon by the Academic & Student Affairs Council, Shared Governance. Dr. Tamez: We need to have conversations with our partners across the district. Student Affairs is slowing down for the April deadline on Amendments due to reviewing terms and legalities. The Student Affairs Deans will review and recommend changes and additions as needed. After the Deans review it, ACC lawyers will review, and finally, it will be shared and decided upon by the Academic & Student Affairs Council, Shared Governance. Changes still can come after reviewing. We are aiming for September 1, 2024. Emily: Ask for a copy of documents changes to be shared with the group.
