Terry Bazan volunteered to work on the manual update.

Nina proposed course change resulting from changes during the 60-SCH conversion. Modify Course RNSG 1517 Concepts of Nursing Practice I for Articulating Students (5-5-1) – remove prerequisite MATH 1332 Jonathan Buckstead moved to accept RNSG 1617 course change, second by James Friedrichsen. Approved.

(Returned from June 16, 2017 meeting) Modify Course PHIL 2306 Ethics (3-3-0) – added Honors- Sex and Love, effective catalog 2017-18 Committee accepted topic course.

Pam proposed changing the name of the Personal Fitness Trainer program to Exercise Sciences on recommendation from advisory committee. Changing program name to Exercise Science Revise Awards Personal Fitness Trainer AAS – renamed Exercise Science AAS; deleted KINE 1238, KINE 1108; added MRKG 1311; added footnote 4 Personal Fitness Trainer Level 1 Certificate – added OR options BIOL 2401 and BIOL 1322; deleted KINE 1238; added MRKG 1311; move BIOL 1322 and BIOL 1323 to semester 1. Fitness Specialist Level I Certificate – added OR options BIOL 2401 and BIOL 1322; removed KINE 1238 Cathy Angell moved to accept program name change and changes to awards with caveat that Biology courses be listed as BIOL 1322 OR BIOL 1323 in semester III, second by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved. Committee standard will list ‘or’ courses in the body of the award plan to minimize footnote entries. Example: BIOL 1322 or BIOL 1323.

Bill explained HRGY 1471 prerequisite HRGY 1409 was no longer needed. Modify Course HRGY 1471 Introduction to Computer Aided Design (4-3-3) – remove prerequisite HRGY 1409 Cathy Angell moved to accept HRGY 1471 course change; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Grant and Kerry proposed adding a new topic course. Modify Course HUMA 1301 Humanities: Prehistory to Renaissance (3-3-0) – adding topic course: ‘Humanities: Prehistory to Renaissance: Great Questions Seminar’ James Friedrichsen moved to accept new HUMA 1301 topic course; second by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved.

Catherine updated DANC 2289 to revise course description. Modify Course DANC 2289 Academic Cooperative in Dance Production – revising course description; changing lecture and cooperative course (IM1, 5) to lecture and lab course to IM 1, 2). Requested clarification from THECB on instructional method reporting requirement for ‘Cooperative’ course. Instructional methods remain unchanged with lecture IM1 and cooperative IM 5. James Friedrichsen moved to approve DANC 2289 course description change; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Michelle discussed editorial changes to Hospitality, Meeting and Event Planning, Tourism awards. Revise Awards Hospitality Management Level 1 Certificate – modifying footnotes Hotel and Restaurant Specialization AAS – adding restricted elective HAMG 1317 to footnote 4 James Friedrichsen moved to accept changes to the Hospitality Management Level 1 Certificate; second by Jorge Lynch. Approved. Meeting and Event Planning AAS – adding HAMG 1317 as restricted elective. James Friedrichsen moved to accept Meeting and Event Planning AAS change; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved. Meeting and Event Planning Level 1 Certificate – adding HAMG 1317 as elective. Footnote 1 modification: adding option for HAMG 1342, RSTO 1304, HAMG 2301, or HAMG 1313 if note previously selected as their “OR” course option. James Friedrichsen moved to accept Meeting and Event Planning Level 1 change with modification of footnotes; second by Marie Fofi. Approved. Travel and Tourism AAS – removing TRVM 1306 from Semester V, adding HAMG 1317. Adding TRVM 1306 to footnote 4. Travel and Tourism Certificate – removing TRVM 1306 from Semester II, adding HAMG 1317. Adding TRVM 1306 to footnote 2. James Friedrichsen moved to accept Travel and Tourism AAS and Certificate changes; second by Tomi Welch. Approved.

Rick proposed title and course description change to BIOL 1322 to match ACGM. Revise BIOL 1322 Contemporary Issues in Nutrition (3-3-0) – title change to Nutrition and Diet Therapy, revising course description, and objectives to align with ACGM James Friedrichsen moved to accept BIOL 1322 changes with modified course description to remove ‘professional programs’ and replace with ‘degrees’. Second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Carolyn discussed new Texas state law which requires developmental courses to be paired with academic courses. Add Courses MATD 0385 College Math Foundations (3-3-0) - requiring MATH 1332 as co-requirement James Friedrichsen moved MATD 0285 approval; second by Jorge Lynch. Approved. NCBM 0185 Support for College Math (1-1-0) NCBM 0214 Support for College Algebra (2-2-0) NCBM 0270 Algebra Foundations (2-2-0) Modify Course NCBM 0222 Math Thinking Foundations (2-2-0) – revised title, was Non-Course Based Math for Non STEM Foundations; modify course description. Cathy Angell moved acceptance of new courses NCBM 0185, NCBM 0214, NCBM 0270 and modification NCBM 0222; second by Jorge Lynch. Approved. All NCBM course descriptions will include “This course is not for college-level credit” in the course descriptions.
