Minutes
DMI - Radiology Rudy Garza gave an overview of the status of the current program stating the program has 88 students total. 24 Eastview students and 20 Round Rock students will graduate August 9, 2018 in a program Completion Ceremony at the Eastview campus on August 9. All students are progressing well. Second year students are being introduced to all advanced modalities to enable them to make informed decisions moving forward in their education and career. An emphasis is also placed on communication. The Technology Seminar will be taught this summer and is the capstone course which is a comprehensive program review in preparation of the ARRT credentialing exam. First year students are currently taking equipment, principles, procedures and clinical. Summer courses will be sectional anatomy, radiation biology & protection and clinical. We have some returning students in this cohort. The program has added quality control lab testing in which students must perform several procedures and complete them within 30 minutes. The program includes teaching film but it’s becoming difficult to purchase film. Merry Xray and GE service our equipment. The PAC system is outdated and the department has requested a new PAC system quote. ADVANCED MODALITY PROGRAM UPDATES Computed Tomography (CT) Maria Kelly, CT program instructor, reviewed this program. The program is offered every fall and last fall we enrolled 10 clinical students and 1 didactic only student. 9 didactic completed the program last year and 8 out of 9 have CT jobs. The credentialing exam pass rate is more difficult to obtain: ARRT does not track post primary exam results and graduate survey return rates are low. We currently have 11 applications for fall 2018 and expect more by the July 1 application deadline. A ranking process is used for admissions. Decision/Actions: The program wants to identify more clinical sites to be able to accept more students or to move students in the event such a need arises. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Rudy Garza explained that Teresa Garza, the instructor of the MRI program, went on sabbatical last year in pursuit of a Master’s Degree. The program hired Angela Hadlock who was able to take over program. Angela Hadlock presented the program overview : 2-semester, fall admission, 16 credit hours, with declared and undeclared pathways Fall 2016 – admitted 14 students, 12 completed coursework, 7 certificates awarded, 86% ARRT exam pass rate (6 out of 7), 83% employment rate (10/12 within 6 months) Fall 2017 – admitted 11 students, anticipate 6 to graduate with certificates and 2 completing classroom only, 2 have passed ARRT and 5 are employed Fall 2018 – Received 12 applications to date There followed a discussion of employment opportunities for students. Committee members stated that they encourage students to complete the MRI program to secure employment in the field. Pat Recek, Dean of Health Sciences, commented that most students are embedded in the Austin community and stay in the Austin area and that national statistics reflect that 85% stay in their area with community college education. Dean Recek also mentioned that students in Work Force Education Programs such as the MRI Program in Health Sciences and Computer Science and Information Technology occasionally finish their educational requirements early in their last semester of training. When they finish early in the Computer Science Program, the student is permitted to finish early with no penalty and they receive their diploma or certificate at the end of the semester. This is sometimes very important if a student has an opportunity to be employed in their respective discipline. Pat Recek, Angela Hadlock, and Rudy Garza met in February with Dr. Gretchen Riehl, Associate Vice President for Workforce Education. They discussed the possibility of permitting MRI students to finish early during their last semester. This will help prevent a student from dropping out of the program because they have an employment opportunity that they do not want to pass up. We also discussed arranging a meeting with Linda Smarzik, Dean of Computer Science and Information Technology, to discuss how this type of """"competency based"""" program completion works and to see if we can emulate this same process in some of the imaging programs that would benefit from competency based program completion. The two programs that would currently benefit from this is Magnetic Resonance Imaging and it’s anticipated that the Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology Program which starts this coming fall semester would also benefit from this concept. A meeting with Dean Smarzik is pending at this time. Cardiovascular Interventional Technology (CVTT) Michelle Hamilton will be the instructor for the CVTT effective fall 2018. This 3-semester program was last offered in 2014 with 7 students starting and 3 completing. Michelle has modified the didactic instruction program to be taught online and is developing new curriculum. We currently have 9 applications for fall 2018 and have secured 10 clinical sites from Killeen to San Marcos. Clinical instruction will be 24 hours per week. Committee members supported these efforts. New Mammography Program Rudy Garza explained that this program was offered in past years but was film based. Design of the program: Need objectives, procedures, documentation help from an advisory committee. Need 1 or 2 to help develop the curriculum for the 2-semester program – i.e., how & where? The pay rate is $32/hour for development. Rudy Garza stated that other mammography programs in the area are 16 weeks in duration which seems long. We have proposed 3 weeks of clinical to get procedures completed. Approval process status to date: New curriculum was developed and approved by the ACC Curriculum Committee that includes 1 didactic course with 32 contact hours plus clinical with 96 contact hours. Gretchen Riehl, Associate Vice President, Workforce Education at ACC supports the development of the program. Development of didactic and clinical courses: Textbook selection has been tentatively made. Didactic instruction is planned to be offered as traditional classroom in the evening. Pat Recek suggested looking at a hybrid format as a consideration with face-to- face class meetings in the evening or on Saturday. Discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid and traditional classroom instruction followed. Advisory committee appointments: The immediate need is to recruit community members to serve on an advisory committee and to schedule a first meeting for May 2018, date to be determined. Identifying/confirming clinical sites: Sites are yet to be determined. Start-up of program: Courses have been approved and the next step is to adhere to the ARRT’s “Credit Distribution Process” which involves providing the ARRT with documentation assuring that certain essential requirements will be met, i.e. samples of learning objectives, exams etc. It’s potentially possible to start the program in late fall 2018 or more likely spring 2019. Decision/Actions: Jennifer Bellinghausen and Barbara Mortellaro expressed interested in serving on the committee. Rudy Garza will contact for more discussion.

Radiography Program Assessment Plan & Program Effectiveness Data
Presenter
Rudy Garza
Minutes
Rudy Garza presented the Radiology Program Assessment Plan and Student Learning Outcomes 2016 report that outlines goals, desired outcomes, measurement tools, benchmarks, time frames and results/action plan. All benchmarks were met and the program is exploring ways to increase the challenges. Decision/Actions: A report will be distributed to the advisory committee members for their review before the changes are implemented. The Program Effectiveness Data Report 2016 was also presented. This report includes completion rates, credentialing exam pass rates and the 5-year average job placement rate. • Completion Rate: 2016 – 75%, 5 year average – 76% • Credentialing Exam Pass Rate: 2016 – 88%, 5 year average – 96.5% • Job Placement Rate: 2016 – 96%, 5 year average – 90.2% Additional reports summarizing the program’s certification exam results and national comparison were reviewed and discussed. The program pass rate was 100% for 2013, 2014 and 2015 and exceeded the national pass rate for each of these years. The program’s 2016 pass rate was 82% and national pass rate was 87%. Mr. Garza commented that the current assessment plan is arduous to complete and steps are being taken to develop a new revised plan that will use more data accessed through Trajecsys. MOTION: Dr. Marcus Lines moved to approve the Assessment Plan, motion seconded by Fred Ramirez. Motion passed.

Clinical Education Matters for Discussion
Presenter
Kristy Baker and Kate Patton
Minutes
Clinical Instructor Workshop: Kristy Baker announced that the Clinical Instructor Workshop is being offered for the 2nd time this year on March 26 at ACC’s Highland Business Center with 2 workshops, one during lunch time and one in the evening. Forty three invites were sent with 15 responses to date. Support was requested from managers to allow clinical instructors to attend. Topics: Trajecsys, clinical environment, common clinical issues, education environment, distribution of clinical site evaluations and more. Workshop facilitators wish to motivate the clinical instructors, to make them feel like extensions of ACC and to have them understand that we are supportive of their efforts. Two CE’s awarded for attendance. PPT will be shared with managers. Paul Dubiel suggested that we consider offering the workshop on a Saturday. Decision/Actions: Kristy Baker will contact clinical instructors for their input on workshop scheduling. Clinical Issues: Jasmin Balic, 1st year student, brought up the issue of clinical instructors who do not show respect to students, who may have forgotten what being a student is like. He feels that it’s important for them to understand education. Community partners present at the meeting supported these concerns and stated that they want this feedback from students expressed to Kristy Baker and Kathryn Patton, ACC Radiology Clinical Coordinators, so that they may address these issues with clinical instructors. Kate Patton reported that the program is in the process of revising some of its competency expectations for the upcoming junior cohort and welcomed suggestions from the committee. She mentioned the possibility of adding a “master competency” that would be performed at clinical sites under faculty supervision. She also stated that we are in the process of determining ways to improve the technical skills of graduates. Employer and Graduate Surveys 2018: This item was skipped but the program will soon send online surveys to recent graduates and employers for input. Decision/Actions: The program will send out graduate and employer surveys.
