Presenter
Gretchen Riehl and Gaye Lynn Scott
Minutes
Committee Business returned from 4-19-19 meeting agenda: 1. C&P Check-list by action (see C&P Check-list handout provided by Gretchen Riehl/Style Guide Subcommittee 4-19-19) Discussion transpired and preliminary edits were made. Subcommittee will update with suggested edits and email to Committee for final review, feedback, and approval. C&P Check-list will be finalized no later than end of July so it can be published and distributed to Department Chairs list serv for fall implementation. Final version will be provided to Committee at September meeting as informational item. 2. Core Curriculum Courses/Restricted Electives/Footnotes Guide (see Style Guide – Recommendations handout provided by Gretchen Riehl/Style Guide Subcommittee 4-19-19) Discussion transpired and preliminary edits were made. It was mentioned that most of the text provided in program maps' advising notes populate from their corresponding award plans’ footnotes in CMS. Subcommittee will update with suggested edits, including changing name of guide to Advising Footnotes Style Guide, and email to Committee for final review, feedback, and approval. Brandon Whatley moved to approve with edits; seconded by Regina Swearengin. Approved. Subcommittee will update and email to Committee for final review before implementation. Final version will be provided to Committee at September meeting as informational item. 3. Common Degree Language with the goal to establish (largely) common verbiage for the introduction to award plans (see Introductions to Award Plans document provided by Ron Johns/Style Guide Subcommittee 4-22-19) Discussion transpired and preliminary edits were made including the following additions: C or better statement; standard FOS information to be added to applicable associate degrees; separate sections pertinent to OSA and ATC/ESC awards; and provide examples. It was also mentioned that the introduction to award plans text will automatically populate into its corresponding program map description in CMS. Subcommittee will update with suggested edits and email to Committee for final review, feedback, and approval. Final version will be provided to Committee at September meeting as informational item. 4. Functions and Responsibilities (see Committee Functions handout) Discussion transpired on latest edits. Members decided to add awards to all 'courses and programs' references to read 'courses, awards, and programs'; delete references to 'certificates and/or degrees'. Also clarified style guide function (no. 4). Brandon Whatley moved to approve with edits; seconded by Jorge Lynch. Approved. Subcommittee will update and email to Committee for final review before updating Curriculum & Programs Committee web page. 5. Part-time Degree Pathway/Program Maps Discussion (returned from 2-15-19 meeting agenda) - How will these plans be provided to students and advisors? - Will these be official """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""program maps""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""? If so, will we confuse students if the course progression is different? - Will these plans be published in the catalog? Or should they only be published on program web pages? - Should we ask for a reconsideration of the visual depiction of program pathways (that is, the program map) so that we can embed a part-time pathway into the map? - Will Curriculum & Programs need to approve every part-time pathway that is developed? All agreed to postpone this item, perhaps indefinitely, since a conversation with a larger audience needs to take place. 6. Master Syllabus - Information provided on drop-in childcare services in the Master Syllabus Template contains a technical error: link should be directed to all student parent services rather than just the Highland child watch services. Specifically, the currently approved wording: Drop-in child care is available at Highland Campus: http://www.austincc.edu/students/child-care/child-watch-drop-in-center Should be changed to: Drop-in child watch is available at Highland Campus: http://www.austincc.edu/students/child-care/child-watch-drop-in-center. A full listing of services for student parents is available at: https://www.austincc.edu/students/child-care James Christianson moved to approve Master Syllabus edits; seconded by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved. Ron Johns will update online. - Clarification: is the Master Syllabus mandatory or voluntary? Gaye Lynn Scott stated that it mandatory in order to provide uniformity and to ensure students are provided required information consistently. Instructors can add pertinent information to it. Discussion on Lighthouse: this schedule syllabus only complies with state mandated 3-click rule but does not provide all policy requirements that is included in the Master Syllabus. Blackboard might be another resource where policies could be posted. 7. Minutes – April 19, 2019 (see posted meeting minutes) Mary Kohls moved to approve minutes; seconded by Lorlie Ellis. Approved.
