Committee Business
Welcome! Review of Structure, Functions, and Membership of C&P (Chairs Gaye Lynn Scott and Gretchen Riehl) Ron Johns: FYI - Master Syllabus was updated for fall with pertinent information related to the Pandemic State Updates (Gaye Lynn Scott) Texas Transfer Framework (TTF)– developed/implemented by the Texas Transfer Advisory Committee Gaye Lynn Scott prepared a PowerPoint slide deck that provided an overview of Texas Transfer Framework and TX SB 25: TTF will identify ACGM courses that will apply core curriculum (discipline-specific) AND apply to the student’s degree program upon transfer; SB25 relates to the facilitation of the transfer, progress, and graduation of students in public higher education. Discussion followed. Gaye Lynn: note that the rules say that the TTF FOSC MUST be based on ACGM. Gretchen mentioned that there is a WECM Advisory Committee for Workforce Programs; she is now a member TX SB1531 – limits excess hours for associate degrees that are eligible for state funding to 75 SCH Gaye Lynn: No state reimbursement if a student takes more than 75 SCH (accumulative course hours), effective 2023. Future discussion will need to be had on implementation, establishing a charge to students, etc. For more information: https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/87R/billtext/pdf/SB01531F.pdf#navpanes=0 Degree Health Update and Request for Policy/Procedure Change (Tomi Welch) Proposal for the creative use of course numbers to facilitate degree auditing: The Degree Health workgroup of the Curriculum & Programs Committee would like to propose the creation and use of new course numbers. To be clear, the workgroup is not proposing the creation of new courses, just new course numbers that would be used in much more limited ways than the courses and course numbers found in ACC’s catalog. Tomi: proposing to use TCCN (Texas Common Course Numbering System to develop “ghost courses) – won’t be publicized in catalog or schedule but will be in the degree audit system; will facilitate the transfer of department-approved substitutions; will also assist those students who are transferring into ACC with higher-level courses that don’t have a direct equate with an ACC course. Discussion: Particularly in light of an upcoming credit limit...this will help us with that credit limit issue Note: universities are required to designate the equivalent TCCNs for their lower-level courses… For example: Calculus I, II, and Pre-Calculus; Foreign Language courses, Creative Arts, Lit courses, ENGL 2311 Ron Johns motioned to approve to move forward but slowly; first start with Math courses. Carol Hawk seconded. Approved. Minutes – June 18, 2021 (See Draft) Cathy Angell motioned to approve; Tomi Welch seconded. Approved.
