HIST 1302 United States History II (3-3-0) – adding a topic course United States History II: American Studies
Amy Velchof and Sarah Lynne Bowman presented.
Discussion about the faculty who will teach this topic; there is currently a faculty member who teaches HIST 1301 with a women’s history emphasis; if they teach HIST 1302 as a women’s history emphasis, then it deviates from the topic course description for American Studies…it is actually Gender Studies.
Sarah: the proposed topic description is the broad AMS description; the American Studies topic title and description is standardized by the Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
Committee agreed that more information is needed from Al Purcell…need to let Al know what we want him to clarify.
Brandon Whatley motioned to table until March meeting; seconded by Marissa Burill.
Action Item: Al Purcell will be asked to present in March. He may need to check with the faculty member to clarify if topic outcomes, title, and description will align with American Studies or not; if not, then the course form will need to be corrected and this topic will no longer be an INDS topic.
