Presenter
Marcus McQuirter
Minutes
Revise Awards Drama AA – adjusting courses to align with transfer destinations; updating Core Curriculum course options and footnotes; resequencing courses Marcus McQuirter discussed the following Drama AA course changes, resulting from research of ACC’s transfer partners, who each had four to seven related degree plans in their department; ACC’s updated Drama degree was able to match within all of those degrees. The department is changing the Drama Elective to DRAM 1330 Stage Craft. It is a course that transfer to all of the other BFAs and specifically TX States’ Production and Performance Degree where the majority of students transfer. Replacing EDUC 1200 OR HUMA 1301 with EDUC 1300; removing an extra elective that is not needed; updating the American History note to mirror other degrees and the Mathematics note to allow more flexibility for transferring and to reduce substitutions. Moving DRAM 2336 Voice for the Actor required course to the Drama Elective course options to give students more flexibility for their desired specialty; adding DRAM 2355 to the Drama Elective course options since it is a fundamental class that they need to begin offering (reading plays is very important). Adding DRAM 1121 as an optional course to the DRAM 2289 Academic Cooperative; and updating Foreign Language elective to World Languages to reflect the department name change, effective catalog 2023-24. Ron Johns recommended editing the Language, Philosophy, and Culture footnote in Semester III to specify selecting from Language, Philosophy, and Culture section of the Core Curriculum Course List, now that those courses are listed in the Component Area Option section as well; this will provide more clarity to students. Cathy Angell motioned to approved with recommended edit; seconded by Victoria Taylor. Approved. Musical Theater AA – new award approved 11/18: adding new practicum courses DRAM 2120 and DRAM 2121 Replacing DRAM 1120 and DRAM 1121 Theater Practicum courses with higher level DRAM 2120 and DRAM 2121 Theater Practicum courses, with an emphasis on Musical Theater Scene Study. Jorge Lynch motioned to approved; seconded by Cathy Angell Approved. Add NEW Courses DRAM 2120 Theater Practicum: Musical Theater Scene Study I (1-1-3) – practicum course to be added to the Musical Theater AA DRAM 2121 Theater Practicum: Musical Theater Scene Study II (1-1-3) – practicum course to be added to the Musical Theater AA Will reserve these two courses for Musical theatre Jorge Lynch motioned to approved; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved. Expire Course – no longer offered DRAM 2351 Acting III (3-3-2) – removed from ACGM; was eligible for state funding until August 31, 2022 Brandon Whatley motioned to approved; seconded by Victoria Taylor. Revise Awards – Program CIP: 15.0303 Renewable Energy Specialization AAS – retitling to Solar Energy Specialization; updating program description, courses, and footnotes Renewable Energy Specialization Level 1 Certificate – retitling to Solar Energy Specialization Level 2; converting to Level 2 Certificate based on GIPWE criteria: 30 – 50 total SCH and subject to TSI requirements; updating program description, and courses Alberto Quinonez discussed proposed changes: revisions will facilitate feeding into BAT degree. The Renewable Energy Specialization awards were titled “Renewable” because they included a Wind course. Since this type of renewable energy is not something used in Austin, the WIND course will be expired. These awards will be retitled to Solar Energy Specialization, which this type of renewable energy is in demand in the Austin area. The Solar PV installation optional course will become required and the Solar Thermal Systems will be revised. BMGT 1371 Sustainable/Green Business: Principles, Practices, Opportunities course is replacing the COSC 1315/COSC 1336 course options in the AAS award plan since students have shown an interest in starting their own business. And CNBT 1411 Construction Methods & Material is being added as a course option to CETT 1445 Microprocessor, a traditional electronic course; the industry feedback is that this is not as important as the Solar courses. The Level 1 Certificate will be reclassified to a Level 2 Certificate since it will total 34 SCH and includes a MATH 1314 College Algebra course so it is not TSI exempt. Ron Johns discovered that the proposed Solar Energy Specialization AAS no longer meets the 15 SCH General Education requirements. Alberto suggested leaving in the EDUC 1300 course; and the ELMT 2276 Solar Photovoltaics Installation course will be left in so the AAS will not exceed 60 total credit hours. ELMT 2276 will remain in the certificate as well. Further updates to these awards can be proposed next year. Note: the proposed Level 2 Certificate will now total 33 SCH. Jorge Lynch motioned to approve proposed updates with the suggested corrections; seconded by Ron Johns. Approved. Engineering Technology Specialization Level 2 Certificate – updating courses Revising certificate by adding two courses from the Engineering Technology Specialization AAS, PTAC 2314 and ELMT 2473, and removing MATH 2412 so students could graduate with at least a certificate instead of leaving ACC without a degree or certificate; many students are not prepared to take an additional math course, so this is a solution they have been working on for a while. Jorge Lynch motioned to approve; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved. Expire Awards – Program CIP: 15.0303 Power Technology Specialization AAS Power Technology Specialization Level 1 Certificate This program was meant for power plants, which never took off, so these awards need to be expired; currently one student is in the program and they will be able to finish it. It was noted that another problem with the program is that it was only one class different from the Electronics Technology Specialization AAS degree. Alberto will need to contact Misty Rasmussen to inform her of the expiration of the Power Technology award plans. Ron Johns motioned to approve; seconded by Cathy Angell. Approved. Add NEW Courses – Local Needs to be added to revised Solar Energy Specialization AAS and CT1 awards ELMT 2375 Solar Thermal Systems (3-2-3/80 total contact hours) – replaces expired ELMT 2275 ELMT 2376 Solar Photovoltaics Installation (3-2-3/80 total contact hours) – replaces expired ELMT 2276 Modify Courses CETT 1425 Digital Fundamentals (4-3-3) – replacing expired prerequisite MATD 0390 with MATD 0370/ NCBM 0270 CETT 1445 Microprocessor (4-3-3) – replacing prerequisite COSC 1315 with COSC 1336 Expire Courses ELMT 2275 Solar Thermal Systems (2-1-4) – Local Needs ELMT 2276 Solar Photovoltaics Installation (2-1-4) – Local Needs ELPT 2371 Principles of Switching and Metering (3-2-3) – Local Needs WIND 2359 Wind Power Delivery System (3-2-3) New Course ELM 2376 and Expire Course ELMT 2276 forms will be rejected since they are no longer needed for the updated Solar Energy Specialization award plans. Jim Christianson motioned to approve; seconded by Victoria Taylor. Approved. Post meeting note – per 3/31/23 email from Alberto Quinonez: ELMT 2275 was not to be expired, ELMT 2276 should have been; and new course ELMT 2375 is not needed, ELMT 2376 will need to be added to replace ELMT 2276.

Minutes
Revise Award Geospatial Engineering AAS – updating Restricted Elective courses in Semester IV Stephanie Long discussed revisions so award plan notes will reflect correctly in the catalog: Removing ARCH 1311, since the A&E CAD program would like to reserve that course for architecture majors, and replacing it with COSC 1336 Programming Fundamentals, which aligns with TX Board of Land Surveyors for professional certifications. And updating the DFTG 2421 course prerequisite from DFTG 2430 to DFTG 1405. Jorge Lynch motioned to approve; seconded by Jim Christianson. Approved.

Further discussion on Pharmacy Technician Level 1 Certificate: PHRA 2166 does not stack into AAS so it will not be eligible for Financial Aid. Karoline Gebert explained that they could not figure out how to include this course because the total hours for the AAS would then be less than 60 SCH; also, this award is restricted to students enrolled in the ACC Health Sciences Academy (Dual Credit); there have been a few traditional students permitted to enroll and substitutions were granted, as needed. Lisa Marie Coppoletta commented that she changed her vote to abstained after the Committee had further discussion on the Level 1 Certificate

Revise Awards Business and Government Communications Specialization AAS – replacing expired ETWR 2476 with ETWR 2472 in Semester II; replacing expired BTCM 2378 with 3 credit hours Business, Government, and Technical Communications Elective, and replacing 4 credit hours Business, Government, and Technical Communications Elective with ETWR 2470 in Semester III; removing expired ETWR 1375 from Business and Government Communications Specialization Elective course options in Semester IV Business and Government Communications Level 1 Certificate – converting to Level 2 Certificate based on GIPWE criteria: 30 – 50 total SCH and subject to TSI requirements; replacing expired ETWR 2476 with ETWR 2472 in Semester I; replacing expired BTCM 2378 with 3 credit hours Business, Government, and Technical Communications Elective in Semester II Technical Communications Specialization AAS – removing expired Local Needs ETWR 2476 in Semester II; replacing Local Needs ETWR 2477 with 4 credit hours Business, Government, and Technical Communications Elective in Semester II Technical Communications Level 1 Certificate – converting to Level 2 Certificate based on GIPWE criteria: 30 - 50 total SCH and subject to TSI requirements; replacing expired Local Needs ETWR 2477 with 4 credit hours Business, Government, and Technical Communications Elective in Semester II Risé Lara presented proposed award plan updates resulting from Local Needs courses that were not renewed by THECB; those courses were expired at January’s Curriculum and Programs Committee meeting and now the affected awards need to be updated. There was discussion on the GIPWE changes to award plans that typically require to first be approved by the program’s Advisory Committee before being presented to the Curriculum and Programs Committee; however, the program has let the Advisory Committee lapse (hasn’t met since 2019) and Risé has just assumed the role of Department Chair this academic year. She reached out to past committee members to review the proposed changes; her email is provided in the proposal. Gretchen Riehl mentioned that we do allow voting by email if that is easier than gathering everyone together. Brandon Whatley suggested approving all proposed updates for the upcoming catalog, pending minutes from an advisory committee to follow at a later date. Jorge Lynch motioned to approve; seconded by Grant Potts. Approved. Action Item: Risé will work on reactivating the Advisory Committee with a new faculty member, who is in the process of being hired this spring; then the Advisory Committee will meet and minutes will be provided to the C&P Committee. Post meeting notes: It was discovered that in both the Business and Government Communications Specialization AAS and Technical Communications Specialization AAS, the Business, Government and Technical Communications Elective courses were all 3 credit hours except ETWR 1471; therefore, instead of 4 credit hours for this elective, it would be 3-4, bringing the total award hours down to 59-61. To correct this issue, the Department Chair approved moving ETWR 1471 from the elective course options to be a required course in both award plans, moving required course ETWR 1378 to the elective course options in the Business and Government Communications Specialization AAS, and moving required course ETWR 2374 to the elective course options in the Technical Communications Specialization AAS. Also, this program’s Social Media Communication Level 1 Certificate includes courses that require TSI Sill Requirements of Reading, Writing, and/or Math and totals 33 SCH; therefore, it meets GIPWE’s criteria of a Level 2 Certificate. This certificate was converted to a Level 2 Certificate along with the Business and Government Communications Level 1 and Technical Communications Level 1 Certificates so there would not be one certificate in the program that contradicts the others in catalog 2023-24.

Minutes
Revise Award Manufacturing Engineering Technology BAT – creating an Engineering AS pathway to BAT Laura Marmolejo discussed her proposal to add a second Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) degree pathway for students who have earned an Engineering AS degree; this does not change the requirements of the BAT degree, just reorganizes it. The current degree plan is designed for students who have earned a related AAS degree so they will have already completed 45 hours of technical core courses; an Engineering AS degree has more academic core courses; therefore, these students will already have met the academic core requirements of the BAT and will need to take more of the technical core courses instead. THECB has confirmed that their approval is not required for ACC to create this additional BAT AS pathway since the upper-division courses are not changing. Troy Defrates motioned to approve; seconded by Lisa Marie Coppoletta. Approved
