Overview of International Programs Strategic Plan

IP staff has collaborated and has come up with a draft of a strategic plan and goals. Goal #1 Ensure sustainability of faculty-led, short-term, study aboard programs for future generations of ACC students. Strategic Outcomes • To develop programs and standards in a manner that allows for consistent program implementation. • To create program models that is sustainable for multiple generations of students and faculty. Goal #2 Implement pro-active public outreach and communications strategy to educate, assist, and provide consistent guidance to ACC students, faculty and staff. Strategic Outcome • To increase both understanding of IP office services and knowledge of study abroad opportunities among ACC students, faulty, implementation and interpretation of policies and guidelines for study abroad. Goal #3 Implement due diligence, risk-management, and crisis management procedures during program development, program executions and post-program activities. Strategic Outcome • To create a culture of safety, security, and excellence for all phases of ACC study aboard programs. Goal #4 Increase resources and professional development of IP team to offer more reciprocal exchanges, advising for non-ACC study abroad opportunities, and faculty exchanges. Strategic Outcome • As the ACC student, staff and faculty population grows; the IP office will provide more international opportunities for all ACC populations to gain international experience. Programs-Central & South America  Anthropology in Orange Walk, Belize lead by Clint Davis-9 ACC credits Develop/practice anthropological field methods at pre-Columbian and contemporary Maya sites.  Spanish 3in San Jose, Costa Rica lead by Todd Phillips-6 ACC credits Learn Spanish language in Central America along with the rich history the city offers.  Ceramics in San Jose, Monterverde and San Vicente, Costa Rica lead by Ishmael Soto and Julie Isaacson- 3 ACC credits Learn the history and influenced of pre-Columbian ceramic art and basic techniques of making/firing ceramics.  Spanish 2 in Cordoba, Argentina lead by Renee Vacchio-5 ACC credits Learn Spanish language in the second largest city in Argentina. Programs-Europe  Drawing in Florence, Italy lead by Gary Webernick- 3 ACC credits Drawing/sketching Inspired by the architecture and history of Venice’s world famous sites.  Art History in Florence, Italy lead by Roberta Weston- 3-6 ACC credits Study Art History in the birthplace of the Renaissance.  Intro to Theatre in London, England lead by Cassadra Knobloch-3 ACC credits Opportunity to experience a variety of theatre performances, museum tours and site visits in London.  British Literature in London, England lead by Becky Villarreal-3 ACC credits Students will have the opportunity to explore London both from a historical and literary perspective. Programs –Asia  Business Studies in China lead by Reed Peoples- 1 ACC credit Students are introduced to management practices, culture, history and language of China through business tours and seminars.  Advanced Global Supply Chain Management in Hong Kong lead by Shawn Levson- 1 ACC credit Students visit factories that manufacture products for export to the U.S. and follow process from order management, fulfillment and manufacturing to the dock.  Japanese 2 in Kasukabe City, Japan lead by Emi Schuster- 5 ACC credits Students learn Japanese language while experiencing rich culture of Japan.

Basic requirements that need to be in place as stop-gap measures in the crisis management area are: • Emergency Action Committee • Emergency Contact Phone Tree • In-country Emergency Contacts • Understanding of available emergency resources In-country • Step by step procedures for: -Missing Student -Terrorist Attack -Health Emergencies -Evacuation or Natural Disaster -Violence/Crime -Arrest/Incarceration IP staff along with the collaboration of the IP Emergency Action Plan Committee, will review draft of policies and procedures of the crisis management plant which will be available for review by IP Advisory committee at December’s meeting.
