Agenda Item #1.
Change program name, AAS Manufacturing, Automation & Robotics to AAS Automation, Robotics & Semiconductor.
Presenters:
Alberto Quinonoez/Laura Marmolejo/Tim Hemesath
Committee Discussion:
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• Proposing a program name change from Manufacturing, Automation & Robotics to Automation, Robotics & Semiconductor.
• People didn’t understand or realize that the Manufacturing, Automation & Robotics program is a Semiconductor program.
• Dropping the word Manufacturing and putting Semiconductor to highlight the word “Semiconductor”.
Mark Derderian/John Cain/Kwee Lan Teo
• The proposed name is great for some industries, but they may not take it if they see the word Semiconductor. Does it negatively affect other industry partners because you are dropping the word Manufacturing and replacing it with Semiconductor?
• If I hear of Semiconductor, I think of process technology specific to semiconductors.
• Leaving Automation and Robotics is a good idea.
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• We have another degree that is just Advanced Manufacturing.
• The Manufacturing, Automation and Robotics has AC Circuits and Solid State Devices. This is more technical and electrically based troubleshooting.
Committee Decision:
Motion was made to accept the program name change and approved by 12 committee members.

Agenda Item #2:
Propose new Level-1 certificate, Manufacturing, Automation & Robotics to Automation, Robotics & Semiconductor level-1 certification.
Presenters:
Alberto Quinonoez/Laura Marmolejo/Tim Hemesath
Committee Discussion:
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• Proposing new level-1 certificate, Automation Robotics and Semiconductor Level-1 certificate.
• The new certificate that is being proposed has 6 classes and it has 22 hours.
• The AAS that we just changed the name on didn't have a level-1 certificate.
• We think the courses in level-1 certificates give the students the skills to start. Whether they continue to work or continue to school.
Kwee Lan Teo/Pete Bonnagio
• In Semester 1, you teach DC Circuits, but you don’t teach AC Circuits?
• The others have level-1 certificates and have a little bit more hours than what you are proposing on your certificate. What’s missing? Does the certificate have minimum hours of 22?
• How did you settle this level-1 certificate?
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• The certificate is supposed to be Workforce courses only. Students have to be exempt from the TSI testing, AC Circuits requires math credentials. If students take AC Circuits, it requires College Algebra. College Algebra requires TSI testing. Level-1 certificate is to prepare students to get in the door with their semiconductor related skills before they go to work.
• All of the courses listed in level-1 certificate exist in AAS.
• Some people in the community just want to have an entry level type job, and get an entry level job. Some want to continue on the AAS because they want to get a better and good paying job. If they choose the certificate instead of a degree, they can start taking classes and don't have to take the TSI
test.
• The minimum hours for the certificate are 16-18 and maximum 32-34.
• Our AAS and Certificate programs, the DC Circuits and Digital Fundamentals are the courses for all of our programs. We put Robotics because it’s automation. EDUC 1300 course is offered throughout ACC. EDUC 1300 has data from the college that shows that there's a 20% success rate if students start with this course.
Committee Decision:
Motion was made to create Automation, Robotics & Semiconductor level-1 certificate and was approved by 12 committee members.

Agenda Item #3.
Transfer SMFT-2474 Nanoelectronics Technology from the Engineering Technology Department to the Advanced Manufacturing department
Presenters:
Alberto Quinonoez/Laura Marmolejo/Tim Hemesath
Committee Discussion:
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• This course is currently housed with the Engineering Technology department. However, the degree is in Advanced Manufacturing department. We are requesting to transfer the course so that it leaves under Advanced Manufacturing department to better align the course where the degree is.
Kwee Lan Teo
• What’s the upside/downside?
• Is this course offered to all campuses? Are we also offering this course at HLC?
• What is the certification process to teach the course?
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez/Tim Hemesath
• Right now, it is at the RVS campus because of the equipment in our new Cleanroom. Yes, as soon as we have space modifications, we will duplicate it at HLC.
• We have an old Cleanroom at RVS and it’s now changed. This is a good time to make the change because we got new instructors who retired from NXP and are more current with the knowledge of semiconductors and we are going to redo the whole curriculum to bring it up to date.
• The minimum qualifications, they have to have an Engineering degree and more than 3 years of experience.
• If we just leave it alone, we can still offer the course, but since it’s under Advances Manufacturing, the department chair, Tim, has to hire and check the credentials of an instructor to teach the course. Including scheduling the course. Right now, the course is under Engineering Technology. I should not be doing the scheduling, hiring and checking credentials as this is not under my department.
Committee Decision:
Motion was made to transfer SMFT-2474 Nanoelectronics Technology from the Engineering Technology Department to the Advanced Manufacturing department and approved by 13 committee members.

Agenda Item #4.
Sunset AAS & CT2 Solar Energy Specialization
Presenters:
Alberto Quinonoez/Laura Marmolejo
Committee Discussion:
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez
• We are proposing to sunset a program, Solar Energy. This degree and certificates were created around 2009 or 2010 and got a lot of interest during those few years. As time went on, the enrollment dropped. The last time we taught Solar was 2 years ago and we only have 14 students majoring in the program.
William Morrison
• The Solar energy website they have a program associated with Austin Energy. Several Solar companies hire people and give them on-the-job training. Most of the students who come in don’t want to wait, that’s why the program evaporated.
Laura Marmolejo/Alberto Quinonez
• Most of these courses are not going to disappear because they are still being used from other degrees. Two classes, ELMT 2474 and ELMT 2372 will be transferred to CE. The two other classes that we need to get rid of are ELMT 2376 and ELMT 2375. We’ll send an email to those 14 students. They have a couple of options, 1 - If they still want to finish the degree with that title, we can do course substitution to replace the classes that are missing and 2 - If they want to transfer, they can transfer to Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology or Electronics Technician.
Committee Decision:
Motion was made to Sunset AAS & CT2 Solar Energy Specialization and approved by 13 committee members.

Changing the RBTC-2445 prerequisites from CETT-1445 & ELMT-2441 to CETT-1403 & CETT-1425
Presenters:
Alberto Quinonoez/Laura Marmolejo
Committee Discussion:
Armando Carrasco
• Based on the content for the Robotics course, the skills that are applicable are DC Circuits and Digital Fundamentals. The original prerequisites, Microprocessor and Electromechanical Systems are helpful to the degree, but the most applicable are DC and Digitals.
Mark Derderian
• Do you think you need to modify Microprocessor and Electromechanical? Is that a better option?
Armando Carrasco
• The original prerequisites are higher level courses just to take the Robotic Application course.
Committee Decision:
Motion was made to change the RBTC-2445 prerequisites and approved by 13 committee members.
