Meeting & Agendas
The agenda and minutes were approved.
We revised the AR and G/P to bring it in line with the Theory of Change work ACC is doing for our students. Policies within these documents were clarified, not changed. This includes clarifying the training requirements for teaching online: DLIS (Distance Learning Instructional Series) and QM (Quality Matters) certifications. Discussed language and clarified redline suggestions. We will address this document again during the next committee meeting.
Jenna from OIRA pre-recorded a data deep dive for Distance Education outcomes for the Committee to discuss. Overall, success rates are lower for Distance Education students than traditional students. We will follow up on the data deep dive in our February Committee meeting.
Questions from Committee members:
Q: Does accessibility prior to course publication mean prior to students having access to the course?
A: Since this is required by law, we need to be able to hold faculty accountable for course accessibility.
Q: How can we address with faculty that not every student does best in an online environment but not every student’s schedule allows them to be face-to-face?
A: The Theory of Change team is working towards compulsory orientation for first time in college students to help prepare them for success. Faculty have been making great strides towards online student success in recent semesters.
Q: Is the data for asynchronous and synchronous classes compiled together? Can it be separated?
A: Asynchronous data is compiled by itself, while synchronous and hybrid course data are compiled together as ‘all other distance education modalities.’ This data can be filtered.
The committee was reminded of the next meeting date on February 6th, and asked to submit agenda items no less than 7 days before.
