Meeting & Agendas
All guests went around and introduced themselves, where they work and how ACC has impacted their life thus far.
Liz discussed how our enrollment is growing. We have been adding classes each semester and all of the classes are filling at capacity. Some increase is due to the free tuition program, but we are also seeing an increase due to the PTech program and just overall enrollment. We attended a lot of high school career fairs last year and one of our adjuncts has been working with industry partners to bring awareness to our programs.
We are excited to announce that after many years of just having one full time faculty member we are finally able to hire another full time member. This will bring many more opportunities to our programs and we could not be more excited about the opportunity. The position is already posted and we encourage you to share the opportunity with anyone that you may know.
Liz informed the board on different ways the department is currently using AI in the classroom and how we plan on expanding upon it. Michelle and Stephen shared how they are using it in their classes as well. The board shared different ways they are currently using it in the industry along with the perks and struggles of it. They kept emphasizing it is a "tool". It should not be looked at to do a job, but rather to enhance.
Our ACC Chancellor, Russell Hart-Lowry is having our annual event with community members on the State of the College. The event is February 19, 5:30-8:00 at the Rio Grande Campus. If you have an interest in attending, I'd be delighted to add your name to the guest list. Just let me know.
We have a lot of students from culinary and hospitality looking to crossover, so we have come up with a Food and Beverage Management AAS Degree and two certificates. We feel as though this could be beneficial to our students and the industry. We reviewed the proposed degree plans with the board. The board suggested we add dining room or a service class to the beverage certificate. They also suggested removing the social media courses. Then they threw out a few name change suggestions for the certificate.
All members voted on implementing the new AAS and Certificates. They stated it would help fill a gap they are currently trying to fill.
