Study Abroad Summer 2012 Update
Presenter
William Hayden
Minutes
WH presented an update on summer 2012 programs. The Ireland program was cancelled on February 16 due to a late withdrawal.
The study abroad programs that will take place in summer 2012 include Costa Rice - Spanish III and Spanish Conversation (Faculty Leader Todd Phillips), Peru - Anthropology (Faculty Leader Dr. Karen Bell), and Spain - Spanish IV and Spanish Conversation (Faculty Leader Anne Pyeatt).
Twenty-five Board of Trustees\' Study Abroad Scholarships were awarded prior to the cancellation of the Ireland program. A total of 21 Board of Trustees\' Study Abroad Scholarships have been awarded to students in the Costa Rica, Peru, and Spain programs. The IP Office received fewer scholarship applications than the 50 available for summer 2012.
The IP Office conducted 173 advising appointments from September 2011 to January 2012. However, only 63 students applied for study abroad programs by the January 17, 2012 deadline. The IP Office extended the deadline until February 17, 2012, which resulted in a few more applications submitted.
During Fall 2011 semester, the IP Office conducted 21 campus information sessions as well as 91 class visits to present on study abroad in general and specific programs. Information sessions and class visits will continue to be an important outreach tool for summer 2013, and the IP Office will coordinate with faculty leaders to schedule class visits involving them. The IP Office is planning to hire an office assistant who participated in a summer 2011 study abroad program and served as an IP campus representative during the Fall 2011 semester. The office assistant will serve as a peer-to-peer advisor to speak directly to students about the ACC study abroad experience.
Action: None.
