Description
Welcome of new Committee members
Presenter
Renee Cornett
Minutes
Members introduced themselves and their membershp role with the Committee.
Ms. Cornett briefly summarize the purpose and responsibilities of the committee.
As Department Chair, Ms. Cornett asked the group to consider increasing the membership to allow for (2) individuals to meet the recent graduate membership role. Thus changing the membershp catagory to a 2 year term. This would allow for the inclusion of an ACC DH graduate from the most recent class (i.e., 2012) and retain the year prior graduate for an additional year. The goal is to gain 2 important perspectives of the graduate entering the workforce - e.g.., first job out of school plus an established graduate.

Description
Report from the Dental Hygiene Department Chair
Presenter
Renee Cornett
Minutes
-- Central Texas Dental Collaborative: As the representative for ACC, the Department Chair presented an introduction to the Collaborative and distributed the group\'s strategic plan to date.
-- Program accceditation/rview: The Program successfully met the accreditation objectives via the self study documnets, the on-site review, and follow-up report to receive the status of accreditation without reporting requirements. The next review will occur in 2019. Thank you to the committee members that met with the ADA CODA site team as a part of the on-site review.
-- Program outcomes: The Department Chair shared the following documents to demonstrate program outcomes;
A document summarizing admissions and graduation data, DH National Board pass rates and score average to date, and pass rates and scores on the Western Regional Examining Board clinical exam (WREB)
A set of handouts provided the results the most recent National Board with the new pass.fail and reporting format in addition to the trend of the Program over the years when comparing the content areas to the national average.
A handout summarizing the results of the Patient Satisfaction survey representing patient cases completed in academic year 2011-12. In general the Department is meeting its goals in this area and continues to address areas below the Departmental goal of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale.
-- Changes in the admissions Ranking Score: Ms. Cornett discussed the changes in the calculation of the admission ranking score regarding eliminating the pharmacology bonus points and the addition of a \'\'patient care experience\'\' bonus.
Due to changing degree plans in other health sciences areas, prospective dental hygiene students are the only ones enrolling in the HPRS 1273 course. Subsequently, enrollment numbers are down and in recent semesters (spring 2012 and summer 2012) the enrollments did not warrant offering the course sections (they \'\'did not make\'\'). So in order to not frustrate those that are striving for bonus points, the incentive to take the course prior to enrollment to Program was removed.
The \'\'Patient care experience\'\' is designed to encourage prospective students to work in a patient care environment which will translate to gaining experience in patient communications.
--National Board Preparation: Regarding post national board survey results: the Department of Dental Hygiene Curriculum Committee, based on student feedback and feedback from clinical instructors, recommends that the pharmacology content delivery be structured to better coincide with patient care and to better reflect the dental care environment. To meet this recommendation, the Curriculum Committee desires to create a DHYG specific pharmacology and no longer accept the HPRS 1273 course as meeting the content requirement.
