College Update
Presenter
Lynn Beaman
Minutes
Lynn discussed ACC’s growth and its effect on class sizes and room availability. Human Services students are being turned away because class enrollments exceed classroom limits. Lynn has already requested class limits to be increased. Sandra inquired about the opportunity of offering more online classes; Lynn said she is currently working on that issue. Elizabeth Huss suggested offering classes at other campuses to alleviate the situation.
Round Rock campus will primarily house the Health Sciences and Applied Technology areas. The Round Rock campus will have the largest nursing lab in the State. The new Round Rock campus’ square footage will encompass that of all current ACC campuses. There might be a possibility Human Services will have some type of presence in Phase II. Initially, there had been talk of moving the Human Services department to the Round Rock campus, but that is not going to happen.
Elizabeth H. stated Jeff Brown has done a great job in pulling the Activity Director training together on the Continuing Education (CE) side.
Liz C. stated that CEs business development is offering the computer-based testing for the written part of the LCDC licensure test. Sandra added that this change would be good for students in that they would not have to drive far to be tested; and this would also open up the possibility for conducting testing at other colleges. Liz also reported Human Services students test well.

There was a 100% pass rate on the Certification for Therapeutic Recreation and an 80% pass rate on the exam for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors. Eighty percent of Internship supervisors rated students as “Excellent;” and 20% rated them as “Good” as to their readiness for work. General Human Services does not have a test.

Description
Substance Abuse Prevention II Course
Presenter
Liz Coccia
Minutes
The Substance Abuse Prevention II class has been added to the WECM. Liz would like to see it in the catalog soon. The Substance Abuse Prevention II class differs in its research methods and goes into greater detail (i.e., for those who will be Director of a facility). Sustainability and coalition-building would also be a part of the Substance Abuse Prevention II course. Substance Abuse Prevention I students are required to interview a Prevention program. The Substance Abuse Prevention II class would be for those already working in the program. Sandra added most of the students she sees in prevention classes are educators. Sandra motioned to approve; and Vicki seconded it.

Advisory Board Members’ Update
Presenter
Vicki Totten
Minutes
Vicki discussed St. Edward’s reversed transfers. Walt Pierson, their new Dean, has been hired to enhance the school’s potential. Vicki shared he doesn’t want their advisors to refer to ACC. He is also interested in starting a weekend program and in working with ACC. Vicki advised their New College enrollment is down; but they also have more students than they have ever had. She is doing her best to work towards obtaining Grant money to lower the cost of their tuition. Lynn said it would be great to be able to send ACC students over with scholarship money. Sandra added Texas A&M University has a Public Services major; they paid the tuition of students who were interested in pursuing the degree (these were all online courses). Vicki also mentioned Larry in Houston would like to hold a National Human Services conference and wondered if ACC might be interested in hosting; San Antonio has already been contacted.
Sandra reported she had worked with the Department of State Health Services and made some good contacts there; she would like to recruit some of them into our Advisory Committee Board. She is working with Austin Recovery again and is now writing their curriculum. She extended an invitation to everyone to come and view the modules themselves. Liz advised she will be checking in June of next year to see who she can recruit for the next Advisory Board Committee meeting.
