Description
ACC student pass rates according to TREC

Enrollments in Real Estate courses overall dropped considerably in the last couple of years with the downturn in the economy and the subsequent reduced activity in the Real Estate profession. In order to deal with this responsibly, we have cut the number of courses offered, which is stressful for the faculty, who don\'t have as many courses to teach and to the students, who don\'t have as many choices of which campus to attend for classes.
We believe some students in CE have been confused about how to enroll for courses which can also be used for credit. In order to serve the students appropriately and enhance ACC\'s reputation as a provider of training in Real Estate, appropriate standards will be maintained in all real estate courses, both credit and non-credit. These standards will be adequate to ensure that students who need to take the TREC test are well-prepared for it, including practice in demonstrating their knowledge of all the appropriate topics on tests. (The TREC statistics now indicate that we have some problems in this area.)
We must clearly distinguish between the roles of non-credit and credit classes. We must make sure that all students are given the information they need to choose which is appropriate for their needs. Because we are no longer integrating non-credit with credit Real Estate classes we must make it clear to students that college credit will not be given to students enrolled in CE Real Estate classes.
TREC is now posting completion rates by institutions on their web site and our
overall completion rates are 62.15%. You can find this information at http://
www.trec.state.tx.us/education/examination/exam_pass_rates.asp. This is an issue we will address at our departmental meeting as I am very concerned about how poorly our students are doing on the exam. We are working on a plan of action and will discuss this at our departmental meeting. I think it will benefit our students and will be a real plus for the department. The Advisory Committee agreed that Real Estate students need to score higher on the TREC exam and want an update in the spring on actions taken to make improvements.
