Mr. Whatley explained the bond propositions and their potential impact on the Welding Technology Department. Proposition 1 includes the purchase of property for a future workforce campus in SE Travis County which would include Welding. Proposition 2 includes renovation of existing buildings, which should impact Welding at Riverside. Proposition 2 also includes expansion of the Round Rock campus, which should include expansion of the Welding labs and program at RRC. Mr. Whatley explained that we cannot use our position as affiliates of ACC nor any ACC resources to promote our personal stance on the bond, but may express support or disapproval as individuals.

Discussion: To comply with 60 hour credit limit on AAS awards, the Welding Department proposes changes to its three AAS awards and the associated certificates. Code Welding AAS: Remove electives; change English requirement to ENGL 2311; trade out Intermediate Layout and Fabrication and add new local needs course “Structural Connections”; allow students to select the social and behavioral sciences class of their choice; change capstone to one hour. Plate Welding Certificate: Rename “Structural Welding Certificate”; add wording to heading to clarify that this award prepares students to progress into the Pipe Welding Certificate; add WLDG 1434 and WLDG 1430 to award; change Intermediate layout and fab for Structural Connections; re-sequence. Pipe Welding Certificate: Add note to heading to clarify that student must complete the Structural Welding Certificate before beginning Pipe; add WLDG 2451; change to new 1 hour capstone course. Inspection Certificate: remove note stating that courses may be applied to AAS as electives, as there will no longer be electives in AAS. Art Metals: Metal Sculpture Specialization AAS: Remove elective, Drawing, and Blueprint Reading classes; add one hour to furniture class to create WLDG 2576 which will cover drawing and blueprints; re-sequenced. Art Metals: Metals Sculpture Certificate: Removed drawing and changed furniture class to mirror AAS. Art Metals: Metalsmithing Specialization AAS: Change title to “blacksmithing”, and change reference in heading from “metalsmith” to “blacksmith”; remove drawing, blueprint, and elective; change furniture class to 5 hours (WLDG 2576) and eliminate WLDG 1428 as prerequisite; re-sequence courses. Art Metals: Metalsmithing Certificate: Change title and reference in introduction to “Blacksmithing”; add WLDG 1434; change furniture course to 5 hours; remove Advanced Metalsmithing from award and make Toolmaking the capstone.
