Recommendation to Add Courses to CORE • Biology (BIOL 1414 and BIOL 1415) • Creative Writing (ENGL 1307) • Drama (DRAM 2336) • History (HIST 2311 and HIST 2312) • Humanities (HUMA 1315) • Music (MUSI 1301) • Radio/Television/Film (COMM 1335) Lyman Grant moved to accept seven courses (ENGL 1307, DRAM 2336, HIST 2311, HIST 2312, HUMA 1315, MUSI 1301, and COMM 1335) for inclusion in the 2015-16 Core Curriculum List; second by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved. Ron Johns will submit the seven courses to the THECB by March 1, 2015. Ron will return to the curriculum committee with BIOL 1414 and BIOL 1415 courses in January 2015.

Student Success Courses and Degree Plans Ron reviewed recent history regarding Dr. Cook’s October 17, 2014 suggestion that a success course be included in all associate degree awards. Ron distributed the four Recommendations and Resolutions of the Discipline Assessment Cycle Committee Regarding the Inclusion of Student Success Courses in All Associate Degrees, and the results of a survey among the DAC committee members on this subject. Members expressed strong feelings in this initial discussion on the DAC recommendation and requested more information be provided. Further discussion on the College’s oral and written communication requirements will occur. Curriculum and Programs Committee recommended further discussion take place at the January 2015 meeting. • Information regarding Speech and Writing requirements for high schools; in other words, do all high school students in AISD and surrounding districts have to take a Speech and/or Composition course. • The requirements of other area colleges, with regard to Speech and Writing • General Education background (this to mean a rundown on the history and framework of the gen ed requirements at ACC). • The oral communication and written communications gen ed rubrics • The student learning outcomes for EDUC 1300/PSYC 1300 and for the SPCH courses • The feasibility of EDUC 1300/PSYC 1300 being in the Core Curriculum • The proposed revisions to AR 1.04.012 • The ACAP for student success goals that was done previously (no one seemed to know when this was done) Ron Johns will provide additional data on these suggestions.
