Challenges
Heather Biagas
Heather talked about the challenges that the program currently faces and the possible challenges the program could face in the immediate future:
•Providing enough qualified instructors to fulfill the courses being offered at the Round Rock campus
•Having enough students enrolled to fill all course offerings at the EASTVIEW campus and the Round Rock campus
•Potential to add course offerings on the weekend
•Communities in Austin and surrounding areas do not know that the programs exist and even after 10 years, the obstacles would include a lack of money and staff to spread the word
•Locating non-completing students and inviting them to complete their degree
•Strengthening the Travel & Tourism Program
•The ability to receive enough funding to provide computer aided instructional and real-time computer simulations. One example, front office reservations, point of sale training, cloud computing
The department is currently working on a grant that will assist with a web-based simulated training. Hopefully the grant will award the program with $20,000 to $25,000 to help with student training.
8)
Industry Support
Heather Biagas
Heather talked about the needs and support of the members. She provided them with degree plans and requested feedback from them in regards to the courses we currently offer. She also provided the members with a list of events that we have provided assistance in the past.
What is needed:
1. Identify the skills and qualifications needed to obtain gainful employment
2. Identify the instructional material that is and is not provided in courses
Each members packet included the current degree plans and course descriptions. Heather invited the members to review the information and to consider visiting our classes in the upcoming academic year. She also stressed the importance of receiving feed back from the industry members. The support and assistance will provide the programs with guidance and feedback on how we are doing.
