Addictions Counseling in the Criminal Justice System Certificate
Presenter
Liz Coccia
Minutes
Liz C. said the state has now approved addiction element within the Criminal Justice System Certificate. The state has placed it in the criminal justice employment and Gateway. The CCJP requires having 270 hours of education and a 300 hour practicum with a certain amount of hours in the field. We have worked with the Criminal Justice department at ACC to include this. Students can complete the entire Certificate on-line. Gateway is a big employer for ACC students. The Certificate also serves as a great marketing tool for students. Motion to approve was initiated by Vicki, seconded by Randy. Rick inquired as to why his SCWK-1391 course name doesn’t include the word “ethics;” he indicated it was confusing to students. Lynn discussed her interactions with asking WECM to convert the course, but indicated THECB did not agree and so no change was made.

Description
Addictions Prevention Course
Presenter
Lynn Beaman
Minutes
Lynn indicated a new course is being proposed; there has been a push for prevention courses back into the curriculum. (Previously TACADA would not accept.). The state now requires a Certified Prevention Specialist on staff. Prevention courses are only being offered at Texas Tech. Liz just drafted Substance Abuse Prevention. The course is needed to put into the curriculum for Spring 2007, through Continuing Education. The course will be three credits. Liz hopes to also include it on the academic side and offer it on-line, as well.

Report on NOHS Certification Program
Presenter
Kirk White
Minutes
Kirk discussed initiating requests to WECM (when changing courses) as “local needs” instead of under “special topics.” He stated that designation would allow for more flexibility in naming classes. Vickie motioned the approval of looking into getting a “local needs’ request for Human Services classes; the addition was seconded by Liz S.

St. Edward’s Human Services Program Credentials
Presenter
Vickie Totten
Minutes
Vickie reported on the Human Services credential at St. Edward’s University. Phase One offers a seamless application process for students in an accredited program to get their credentials. Phase Two of the program will enable students who graduated from non-accredited programs the ability to also apply for the same Human Services credential. The Board will be voting on this soon and it should be ready by December, 2006.

Description
Placing a “Year” Limit on Courses Taken
Presenter
Lynn Beaman
Minutes
Lynn requested establishing an age limit on acceptance of all “previously” taken HUSE courses, or on students who are returning much later, unless the students are licensed, or certified. Presently, there is no statute of limitations on courses. Lynn also indicated challenging a course if they did not take the course at ACC. Motion was made by Liz S. to approve to use 10 years as the acceptance limit on Human Services classes with the ability to challenge the courses; Linda seconded. Vicki and Pete abstained. Motion was approved with the amendment to accept courses older than ten years, if the incoming student is already licensed/certified.

Adding a Lab Component to Group Work Intervention
Presenter
Lynn Beaman
Minutes
The proposal to add a Lab component to the Group Work Intervention class and having Liz and Rick team teach was presented (Rick would do the Lecture, and Liz would teach the Lab). Liz said it gives the students an opportunity (another hour) to do some more creative things such as facilitating, and seeing themselves in action. It also allows each teacher flexibility. Randy motioned to approve the proposal; Pete seconded.
