a. Clinical Coordinator Update – Dr Coombs Introduced Sara Yaffe, the new LVT Clinical Coordinator. She introduced herself. b. Accreditation Update - Applications for accreditation have been submitted to the AVMA and after several follow up responses things seem to be in place. Program has begun and the next step will be submitting a Self-Study toward the end of 2015. The AVMA-CVTEA evaluation is scheduled for Feb 3-5, 2016. c. Update on Clinical Site needs for entire program – • Affiliation agreements are still being worked on with Pflugerville animal clinics, Emacipet, and other local clinics. • Working with ACC Radiology Department on usage of facility and equipment for Vet Tech students. Possible use during the summer semester. • Sara Yaffe is compiling agreements with local clinics and other animal facilities. These agreements would cover small and large animals. Names were given to Sara from member of the committee of local resources that could possibly provide additional animal resources. • About 20 sites have signed an affiliation agreement for students to choose from to conduct their clinical requirements.

a. First admission co-hort. Had 17 applications for the program. Of those, 11were qualified and admitted. One student withdrew the first week for personal reasons. b. Update on exemption from the 60 hour credit rule – SB 497 • Dr Coombs will be addressing the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to enlist support for exemption to the 60 credit hour rule. The TVMA was petitioned for a letter in support of the exemption at the last board meeting during the South West Veterinary Symposium in Fort Worth. • Exemption documentation is due by October 31st to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. • Advisory Committee approved proposed curriculum for both 60 and 65 credits. The committee prefers the 65 credit. Both were approved by the committee pending the THECB ruling early next year. c. Bond Proposal - There are 3 propositions on the ballot: PROPOSITION 1: Planning and Construction for Future Growth • ACC Highland Campus, phase II—includes repurposing Highland Mall to serve as a regional workforce innovation center, regional health sciences center including STEM simulator lab, digital and creative media center, culinary and hospitality center, and incubator space. • New campus in Leander • Acquisition of new property for regional workforce center in southeast Travis County Proposition 1 total: $224.8 million PROPOSITION 2: Existing Campus Growth, Renovation, Health, Safety, and Sustainability • Renovating ACC’s almost 100-year-old historic Rio Grande Campus • Constructing a regional first-responders training center at Hays Campus • Constructing an Elgin Campus workforce training center to house veterinary technician and sustainable agricultural entrepreneurship training • Renovating buildings districtwide for health, environmental sustainability, safety, and technology • Expanding Round Rock Campus Proposition 2 total: $161.17 million M&O Tax Proposed Uses • Maintenance and operations of facilities and programs • Deferred and preventative maintenance of existing buildings • Stabilize in-district tuition to keep college affordable • Expand veterans programs, services, and tuition waivers • Maintain high school dual credit (Early College Start) tuition waivers • Establish workforce dual credit academies in health sciences, IT, and construction • Develop the Career Expressway program, a community-based partnership focused on reconnecting with former college students, getting them to completion, and into well-paying jobs • Establish the college’s first R.N. to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program • Attract and retain quality staff & faculty, with a ratio of 60 percent full-time faculty and 40 percent adjunct faculty d. BSN – The legislature will decide if they will allow community colleges to offer a baccalaureate degrees in certain fields- nursing being one. ACC would submit a request if the legislature passes. A proposal is in the works of possibly having a BSN program at ACC.
