POFT 1231 Numeric Keypad Applications: Data Entry change to POFT 1231 Numeric Keypad Applications
Jane Billingsley
Jane explained that in the past, data entry was a component within the POFT 1231 course. But due to a lack of updates by the publisher, we had to change the textbook to match the student needs. Unfortunately, the new text lacks data entry but it has a tremendous amount of 10 key. Jane asked the committee to vote on changing the course to POFT 1231 Numeric Keypad Applications (WECM title) and remove Data Entry from the title.
Vote: All eligible members voted unanimously to change the title of the course to POFT 1231 Numeric Keypad Applications
5)
POFT 1171 to replace EDUC 1100
Jane Billingsley
The new Provost, Dr. Cook, has mandated the addition of a student success course into a majority of the degree plans. This change will require an edit in the current degree plan and will replace EDUC 1100 with POFT 1171. POFT 1171 is a course developed for Workforce Education students. It is a one credit hour course and only 1st year college students or students with less than 12 hours are required to take this course within the first semester. David Zuniga explained that when a student is advised, they will be notified that they are required to take this class. The committee discussed adequate availability for POFT 1171 and decided that EDUC 1100 should be an option to complete the requirement.
Course Description: POFT 1171 - College to Career Success (1-1-0)
This course introduces students to strategies and knowledge which will increase their job readiness, employability, and success in college and their career. The following five major areas will be covered: Self-understanding; Creating an attitude of success; Researching jobs and careers; Job search skills; and Job interviewing and communication skills.
Vote: All eligible members voted unanimously to change the degree plan to the 1 credit hour course POFT 1171 College to Career Success and to add the option of taking EDUC 1100 if POFT 1171 is not available. *It is recommended that you take POFT 1171 but if it is not available you can register for EDUC 1100

Workforce Solutions Data
Jane Billingsley
Jane shared information that Workforce Solutions presented to the Business Studies Division during our fall meeting. Some of the data she handed out focused on administrative assistant and clerk jobs. It also pointed out the need for the jobs and projected salaries. The committee discussed the data and found that it may be a good idea for Office Administration to work on a 2 to 3 course certificate of completion that would train workforce adults on the skills they need to become employable.
8)
Declining Enrollment/Marketing Plan
Jane Billingsley
Enrollment is not high but it is up from last fall by 5%. 323 is the total for fall 2015 and 308 was the total for fall 2014. Jane shared that she met with marketing to begin working on a plan but the project was put on the back burner. Marketing has since regained its ability to assist and will have a proposal to Jane within 3 weeks.
