The additional online information includes withdrawal codes for students and instructors that state why a student is withdrawing or being withdrawn. At least, one code must be chosen in order to withdraw. A discussion followed on students withdrawing to change classes. The college is working on students transitioning to online withdrawal instead of using paper forms.

Men of Distinction Program
Presenter
Jarrell McCullar
Minutes
Jarrell presented a report on the MOD program. Of the 1561 African American males enrolled in 2011, 850 did not return. The ACC reports on this population go to Jarrell who is working on recruitment and retention through MOD. MOD is using peer to peer tutoring and mentoring for students. MOD is targeting this group with information provided for resources available to assist students. Students are routinely referred to the Learning Labs for assistance. Hourly tutors and mentors are making individual contacts. In the fall, some of the MOD members attended the South West Black Students Leadership Conference at Texas A&M in College Station. The exposure to other African American students and leaders was immensely valuable as a source of information and encouragement to students. Jarrell is involved with Achieving the Dream using the MOD program to work effectively with the community. Loretta Edelen, Director, Community Outreach, has included MOD students at college functions in schools, churches and the community. They are doing an exceptional job. Erika Domatti , Instructor, mentioned that she has 250 deaf students including some African American males. She will send the names to Jarrell so he can target them with the MOD program.
