TCLEOSE update on rules and compliance issues governing Academic Alternative Programs and required training for advisory board

Advisory board was trained using TCLEOSE’s Advisory Board Training Course #3003 PowerPoint. The board also reviewed all items on the TCLEOSE’s rules regarding advisory board requirements; Article 215.6, 215.7 and 215.9. As follows:
1) Establish and maintain an advisory board
2) Advisory board make-up
3) Election of chairman
4) Meetings & minutes
5) Advisement on curriculum, commission rules, training needs, types, frequency and location of courses
6) Standards of admissions, prerequisites, minimum and maximum class size, attendance, instructors and retention of students.
Handouts on future course schedule, course syllabi, course descriptions, list of instructors, locations, times, dates, textbooks were given to each board member.

GW discussed the enrollment trends for each term based on the ACC 2011-2012 Fact Book. Enrollment per term is steadily increasing in the Criminal Justice Department.
GW attributes the growth to the knowledgeable and experienced faculty and the quality work they put into the program and meeting the needs of the students and community.

Implemented degree plan changes

Briefly discussed how the removal of CRIJ 1307 Crime in America has affected the AAS program.
Removing CRIJ 1307 from both degree plans and replacing it with CRIJ 2328 in the Corrections degree and CRIJ 2313 in the Law Enforcement degree has shown to be more beneficial to students by eliminating a course that is not accepted for transfer by four year universities.

We currently offer all lecture courses online and they are the first courses to fill during registration. Should we offer more sections of online courses?
Action: No action taken at this time. We will wait and see what the enrollment numbers are in both online and on-ground classes and make a determination at that time whether to add an additional section.
