• Block Scheduling
Presenter
Douglas Smith
Minutes
Doug explained State mandate to block schedule and impact on programs. Committee agrees that certificates are most conducive to block scheduling and that we should explore the way we design certificate plans with an eye to block scheduling. This led the discussion into item six.
6)
Description
New Certificates -CAD Foundation Certificate -Architectural CAD/BIM Certificate -AutoCAD Drafter Certificate
Presenter
Douglas Smith
Minutes
Doug explained that research shows that students who complete certificates are more likely to complete degrees. The department had looked at the possibility of finding opportunities for certificates that would make sense. The three are CAD Foundation, Architectural/BIM certificate and an AutoCAD Drafter marketable skills certificate. After diagramming the certificates, and asking for feedback, Ralph Sanches remarked that this was a """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""no brainer"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""". Other comments were positive as well. Doug told the committee that we would finalize work on the proposed certificates and send them to the committee for a vote via email. The email was sent on April 4 and approved by at least 7 of the 13 members with no nays (see item 6)
