Gaye Lynn welcomed new members and briefly reviewed committee functions. Matthew reported the ad hoc subcommittee would discuss functions including the scope and what decisions and processes which should be the focus of the Curriculum and Programs Committee. Ron Johns, Reed Peoples, Gina Swearingen, and Joann Kroll will work with Matthew to make recommendations to the full committee. Clark and Michelle will contribute revisions to the Curriculum and Programs Committee manual.

Carolynn discussed adding the four-credit MATD-0484 course and changes to the MATH 2305 course description. Add Course MATD 0485 Developing Mathematical Thinking (4-4-0) Modify Course MATH 2305 Discrete Mathematics (3-3-0) – course description revise James Friedrichsen moved to accept the MATD-0485 course addition, and to approve course description modification of MATH-2305; second by Jorge Lynch. Brandon, Steve, and Garry reviewed changes to award plans. Each advised changes were approved by advisory committees and made to re-sequence courses to align with prerequisites. Revise Awards Motion Graphics Specialization AAS – added MOTG 1475 to semester I; updated MOTG 2474, MOTG 1471, MOTG 1473, MOTG 2470, MOTG 2371, MOTG 2372. Motion Graphics Level 2 Certificate – incorporate changes to align with AAS award. Reed Peoples moved to accept changes to Motion Graphics Specialization AAS and Motion Graphics Level 2 Certificate and all the course additions, modifications, and expiration; second by Gina Swearingen. David discussed the request to make ETWR 2364 repeatable for credit. Modify Course ETWR 2364 Practicum (or Field Experience) - English Technical and Business Writing (3-1-20) – course will become repeatable for credit, effective 217F. Gina moved to revise David’s request and not approve changing ETWR 2364 to a repeatable course; and to change the title to Practicum (or Field Experience) I so course could be offered with different topics. Second by Ron Johns. Approved. ETWR 2377 Advanced Business Communication (3-3-0) – change course title from Advanced Business Communication Technical Information; change course cap from 18 to 15; effective 217F. Gina moved to accept ETWR 2377 course capacity change to 15; second by Matthew. Approved. Stephanie reviewed updates and course re-sequencing in the Culinary awards. Revise Awards Baking and Pastry AAS – added footnote 4 to Math requirement, added ‘or’ option to HAMG 1321 or PSTR 1343; re-sequenced CHEF 1301 and PSTR 1301; added ‘or’ option to ENGL 1301 or ENGL 2311. Pastry Arts Level 1 Certificate – align certificate with AAS award plan. Culinary Arts AAS – added footnote 4 to Math requirement; added ‘or’ option to ENGL 1301 or ENGL 2311; re-sequenced CHEF 1301, CHEF 1340, CHEF 2301, and CHEF 1310; made adjustments to prerequisite pluses. Culinary Arts Level 1 Certificate – align certificate with AAS award plan. Modify Course PSTR 1343 Bakery Operations and Management (3-3-1) - The lab component will be revised; prerequisite PSTR-1301 removed. Reed reviewed changes to Hospitality, Meeting and Event Planning, and Tourism awards submitted to align courses to match the Areas of Study initiative, and to provide additional mathematics course options to students. Revise Awards Hotel & Restaurant Specialization AAS Meeting & Event Planning AAS Travel & Tourism Specialization AAS James Friedrichsen moved to accept C Hospitality, Meeting and Event Planning, and Tourism award changes. Second by Gina Swearingen. Approved.

Ina proposed a new Retail Management Level 1 Certificate comprised of course in existing course inventory. This award is currently offered by Tyler, Dallas, and Tarrant County community colleges and 130+ colleges nationwide. Upon certification of completion by ACC, students will also earn the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) certificate. Additionally, Ina provided modification to the Marketing electives in the Marketing AAS. ADD New Award Retail Management Level 1 Certificate (24 SCH) Revise Award Marketing AAS – add to footnote 3: BCIS 1305, BMGT 1327, HRPO 2301, and HRPO 2307. James Friedrichsen moved to accept the Marketing Retail Management Level 1 Certificate and the Marketing AAS elective updates. Second by Gina Swearingen. Approved. Donny followed with the request to publish the Retail Management Level 1 Certificate in the Management program. The Management AAS plan was modified to add MRKG 1302 to the list of electives. Mike returned the former Medical Devices application (approved 2/19/16) to the committee with resolution of issues raised by the ACC Board. The program will be presented to the ACC BOT under new department Manufacturing Technology. The proposed plan identified courses in three groups: Core, general education, and technical specialization courses. The proposed plan is designed to be offered in the future with various technical specializations. The original Medical Devices Level 1 and Level 2 certificates flow directly into the AAS; the ATC offers students with related work experience an opportunity to focus on new skills. Implementation is planned for fall 2017. Rick discussed changes to courses made as a result of changes in the Lower Division Academic Course Guide Manual. Two courses will be expired summer 2017.
