IBI Scholarship
Bill Louden
The IBI has awarded 8 scholarships totaling $14,500.00 since Summer of 2004. As you may remember back in 2009 the IBI made a rather significant contribution of $25,000.00 to the IBIAC/Jan Smith Scholarship fund. The current balance stands at $20,156.79 A question was asked, what are we doing to add additional funds to the balance? Currently there are no plans to increase the fund. However; there were several suggestions made: • Transfer 5% of IBI conference income to the scholarship fund annually • Work with area non-profits to hold fundraisers Action • Regina will contact the ACC Foundation about donating 5% of IBI’s conference income to the scholarship • Bill will look into fundraisers with area non-profit organizations.

General Program Updates
Bill Louden
Relocation of IBI The International Business Program relocated to Round Rock Campus back in the fall of 2010. Action N/A Discussion International Business Program is no longer affiliated with International Programs Shortly after Director Frank Flauto’s departure, ACC split the International Business and Study Abroad Programs. International Business is now under direction of Bill Louden and International Programs in now under the direction of Stephanie Amundson. Action N/A Discussion Upcoming Classes/Events • The International Business Institute will host its eleventh Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) seminar, November 29 and 30, 2011 • The Certified Global Business Professional Exam (CGBP) Prep class is being offered again this fall. Registration ends October 12 and classes begin October 22, 2011. IBI’s CGBP exam pass rate is an impressive 80%. • IBI Spring Classes. The IBI is offering a new course this spring, Electronic E-Commerce Systems along with eight other international business courses. Action N/A Discussion The IBI will be working with the Austin Chamber of Commerce to host a group of six student banking apprentices from Germany in October. The IBI is also assisting Sister Cities of Korea with a group of Korean first year college students. This group of students will arrive next summer and the IBI will assist them with cultural course work. Action N/A Discussion The International Business Institute is trying to somewhat separate itself from ACC in order to stand as its own unique brand allowing IBI to focus on the business community. The plan is to split the IBI into two separate entities, academic and business. With the business side focusing on more seminars, conferences and corporate training and the academic side focusing on our degree and certificate programs. Action Bill and Mortada Mohamed will continue to work toward developing this initiative. Discussion The continuation of the HAZ-MAT courses. IBI for years has partnered with Cargo Training International to offer HAZ-MAT classes to area businesses who ship hazardous goods. The arrangement between CTI and IBI was for IBI to provide, registration, a classroom, food and beverages with CTI providing the instruction and materials. Over the years the student enrollment has continued to drop; in addition CTI has been taking a larger portion of the revenue. It is for these reasons that IBI has decided not to continue its relationship with CTI. Although we are not currently looking to offer HAZ-MAT again in the near future the IBI is not opposed to looking for another partner in order to continue to offer this series of classes. Action Rebecca Moya-Webb and Shawn Levsen will send a list of possible companies for the IBI to contact for potential HAZ-MAT instruction. Discussion The IBI is also looking into other courses that could be offered to assist students and business professionals in obtaining additional certifications such as supply chain and custom brokerage. Action Bill will continue to explore other prep course offerings to help students prepare for additional international business certifications

BIE Grant Update/Future Grants
Bill Louden
BIE IV wrapped up last December with two trade missions, one to Monterrey Mexico and one to Panama. The IBI did not apply for a BIE V due to the lack of funding available this year. The IBI hopes to re-apply once the funding has been re-established as well as explore other grant funding options. The Center of European Studies at UT in partnership with ACC was awarded a $36,000 grant, with funding disbursed over 3 years at $12,000 a year. The IBI will assist UT in hosting a number of European summits, with the first one taking place in the spring of 2012. Action N/A

Program Future
Bill Louden
The recent and continuing State of Texas budget cuts for education have forced the college to increase the minimum enrollment for classes to make to eighteen students. This change alone is expected to save the college 4 million dollars. As a result small programs such as the International Business will be reviewed for possible elimination. The first meeting to discuss the review of these programs will be held on September 23, 2011. In preparation for this meeting, Bill Louden and Regina Schneider have been preparing a report outlining the many accomplishments of the International Business Institute. This report will highlight the successes of the International Business Institute since its establishment, including: • Four BIE Grants totaling approximately $765,000 • Business outreach/conferences over 40 offered with estimated revenue of $341,607.79 • Fourteen AAS Graduates • Forty-three Certificate Graduates • 80% Certified Global Business Professional Exam Pass Rate • Fourteen IBIAC Jan Smith Scholarships Awarded for a total of $14,500 Discussion: Additional topics discussed in order to increase student enrollments: • Bill is modifying our certificate and degree program to include prerequisites as well as offering fewer course sections in order to fill classes. This would result in some classes only being offered once a year and fewer teaching opportunities for our adjuncts. • Offering our classes as electives in other program areas within the Business Studies division is another option that IBI is exploring. Bill will be meeting with the department chairs in those program areas to discuss this possibility. • Transferability remains an obstacle as very few IB courses will transfer to other universities. Mainly, IBUS 1305, 1301, 1302 as well as core curriculum. Presently, International Business is considered a workforce program. In order for our all of our courses to be transferable we must become an academic program. This is an issue IBI will continue to try and resolve. • The IBI now has access to the records of students that have listed International Business as their major. This information will be used to help guide students though our program by the means of email marketing. • Bill Louden asked the committee to provide him with feedback on what kind of skills our program should be making sure students obtain. What are employers looking for when hiring for International Business positions? Action • The IBI is asking IBIAC members to write letters of support • Bill Louden will be meeting with other department chairs within the Business Studies area to see if some of our classes could be offered as electives in their degree and certificate programs.
