Michelle welcomed all the attendees to the fall 2014 advisory board meeting and opened the floor to all attendees as they went around the room and introduced themselves. Michelle also expressed her gratitude to the members who attended the opening of the Highland campus.

Program Updates

Michelle reporting the following
Graduation - There were 19 graduates this year in Hospitality Mgmt., Meeting & Event Planning and Travel & Tourism.
Internships - Internship program has improved on the hotel side and currently have students are working with Omni and Embassy Suites. Tourism has gotten better but they are still researching opportunities for all students
Software- Currently using sales pro and micros opera. Students are still using the iPads that were purchased through the technology grant and she also shared that she will work on a grant for the room viewer software. Shop keep is a program that Culinary Arts will be using and Michelle will be researching web based tools with the sales representative soon.
News – the Austin Business Journal show cased the social media class offered to students from Denmark hosted by the hospitality department last school year. The class ran for 2 weeks in the summer, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The students were given the opportunity to present plans that would offer assistance to several companies around the Austin area.
Articulation – An articulation agreement has been signed with Stephen F Austin. This agreement will allow students to transfer to a 4 year school. Michelle has also had communications with the University of Houston who opened a Junior/Senior level campus in San Antonio this Fall of 2014. The presence of U of H will also provide studies to transfer and earn a 4 year degree. An Articulation Agreement has also been signed with U of H.

Program Review
Michelle Fitzpatrick
Michelle shared that the Travel/Tourism program is up for review this year. She asked for willing members to sit on the review committee. Members offered the suggestion of collaborating with amusement parks and other event companies that service tourism. Resources were offered to Michelle from members of the board.

60 Credit Degree Changes

Michelle is proposing the following changes to each degree and certificate program to meet the new 60 credit hour ruling.
Michelle introduced a new course that will be added to the list of restrictive electives, HAMG 1191 Business Professionalism. Michelle explained the objective of the course and the board unanimously voted to add the course to the list of restrictive electives.
