Description
Interpreting
Presenter
Minutes
The field of educational interpreting classes are still pending. It hasn't been decided whether a modification is needed or whether it is appropriate training for educational interpreters.
San Antonio and Austin do not have qualified Interpreter trainers. We need to recruit or hire those needed to conduct on-going workshops. Materials are available to train; Holly has volunteered to teach a class. Byron will work on a schedule regarding Holly's suggestion. Lynn suggested creating continuing education classes for this purpose (changes are easier made through these classes).
Discussion was held to separate community and educational interpreting. The prior focus was community interpreting (compensation is greater in this field); but the real demand now is in educational interpreting.

ASL/Interpreter Preparation Program Proposals
Presenter
Minutes
1) Add - 'orientation required' in the ACC catalog; orientations recommended (passed unanimously).
2) Add - 'to be eligible to enroll in this ASL class, you must have at least a grade of 'C' in the prerequisite. Course requires significant time outside of class' to the ACC catalog (passed unanimously).
3) Reduce - ASL I & II credit hours from 5 to 4 credit hours and increase Interpreting class credit hours from 3 to 4 credit hours.
Contact hours can be changed by decreasing lecture and increasing lab time (passed unanimously).
4) Recommend - students take 'DEVR 1353 Advanced College Vocabulary' to enhance their vocabulary skills (course is developmental; placed on hold).
5) Restricted elective - course is required and could drop credit hours to 68. Internship hours must be completed before graduation (students can also hold paid internships); however, if certification is completed before graduation ACC will encourage students to complete the IPP program. Most employers are receptive to the Interns but new sites are desired.
