Meeting & Agendas

Brandon Lackey welcomed the committee and called the meeting to order at 6:32pm. After introductions were made, he explained their role as a member. Since there were several new members at the meeting, a new motion from Jason Marcil was made, recommending Shane Tarrant be Chair of the committee. A motion for Vice-Chair was made by Matt Schmitz and recommending Jason Owen for vice-chair. A vote was taken and passed by acclamation by the members.

Brandon Lackey gave the following updates: • Highland Campus Update - The department is planning on moving to HLC in 2020 • Graduates – Currently graduating about 7 students. Usually graduate about 14 each year. • Student Work – Showed previous 3D Animation student work for feedback from members. Feedback given: include attacks and exclude idle stances. Also include more combat sequences. Do not include to many cycles, but do include creative pieces. • Student Updates – Where graduates are working.

Brandon Lackey asked members for support and suggestions on the following topics: • Need for industry support of interns. Andrew Lauretta suggested contacting studios for internships and advised that Bioware has a specific person for University Relations. He will email their information to the department for future communication. Members advised that it is up to the department to reach out to studios to see if they need interns. Brandon/Garry advised that the department has an industry liaison person and they need to contact studios on a consistent basis. • Solicited for someone to write curriculum for Character Artist Certificate.

• Brandon Lackey informed the members of the skills taught throughout the classes in the degree and certificate explained the request for modifications: • Moved classes into different semesters (see attachment 1) • Revised a few prerequisite courses. (see attachment 1) Advisory members suggested more character rigging classes. If a class needs to be cut, then the Basic Animation class should be cut in order to make room for more character rigging courses. Action Item: Niall Farrell made the motion to table the modifications until the proposed degree and certificate can be revised to include committee member suggested revisions and a course description for an advanced character rigging course. Matt Schmitz 2nd the motion and the votes passed by acclamation. Brandon Lackey asked if the animation curriculum should introduce animation for film? Advisory members suggested researching a test course to see if there is interest in short film animation. Brandon informed members he would research the possibility of offering a test class in this area. Addendum: On August 17, 2016 an email was sent to all advisory members with the updated degree and certificate plan and course descriptions for their review and approval. All members replied via email with their request for motion and vote of approval to accept the revisions. Motion passed by acclamation.

Members were asked for a date for the next advisory committee meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for July 13, 2017 unless one is needed sooner. Shane Tarrant made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Motion was 2nd by Jason Owen.
