Meeting called to order by Pam Soto, Department Chair for ACC’s Personal Fitness Trainer Program. Committee members introduced themselves. Pam Soto welcomed everyone.

Committee had elections of new advisory board officers for the year 2008. By unanimous decision, the newly elected Chair is Daphne Garrett and newly elected Vice Chair is Karyna Elizondo.

National Accreditation of FITT

Minutes
Pam Soto presented her review of the National Accreditation of FITT program through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs. Pam Soto opens discussion to the members regarding this program. She wants to know if the FITT program at ACC were to seek accreditation through this program would this program, in terms of employment, have influential effect when hiring ACC’s students who have completed the FITT program. After discussing the National Accreditation of FITT, the members decided that Pam Soto will poll the students regarding the accreditation, get more detail about the program such as all cost involved, and what other benefits would it have to pursue accreditation through this program. Pam Soto will report results of poll.

Technical Standards for Personal Trainers

Minutes
Pam Soto presented the updated version of the technical standards for Personal Trainers, which were to be corrected from the last meeting. The members reviewed the standards and had discussion and additional corrections. Eileen Klein, Executive Dean of Health Sciences, recommended that Pam Soto contact the EEO/ADA/Affirmative Action Coordinator and work with them to finish the technical standards.

Student body art/body piercing issues

Pam Soto expressed her concerns regarding PFT student’s body art and body piercing. She wanted to know how the members felt about these issues. The majority of the members agreed that it should be expressed to the students that visible tattoos will be covered and that piercing will be removed when doing practicum. Of course, it will still be up to work facility as to what they will accept.

Pam Soto presented her marketing kit to the members. She now has posters, brochures, and cards to recruit students. Pam Soto announced that enrollment in the program is growing. In the fall she had 16 students and 8 for the spring. She anticipates she will have 7 in the summer. Pam Soto suggested that for the spring students not be charged a site fee. Eileen Klein will work her to delete this charge. Pam Soto introduced proposed course pre-requisite changes. The members agreed to adopt the changes.
