Both Sinclair College and Montgomery College said it has helped their programs with marketing the programs and increase the number of students that entered their programs. Committee members shared that if they have two applicants with similar experience but one graduated from a CAAHEP accredited institution they would hire that candidate. Curricular Change Proposal
Presenter
Pam Soto
Minutes
The Associate of Applied Science Degree changes proposed and approved by the committee are to drop KINE 1108 Conditioning—Walk/ Jog and KINE 1238 Intro to Physical Fitness and Sport and in place add MRKG 1311 Principles of Marketing. This will help students acquire the tools necessary to market themselves to potential clients. The committee also approved changing the degree plan from AAS Personal Fitness Trainer to AAS Exercise Science. The new title would open up avenues for transfer to four-year institutions and reflect the curricular requirements of the AAS degree more accurately. Approved changes to the Personal Fitness Trainer Certificate are to remove KINE 1238 Intro to Physical Fitness and Sport and move BIOL 1323 Human Nutrition or BIOL 1322 Contemporary Issues in Nutrition from the second semester to the first semester. This would increase the first semester hours for the first semester from 16 semester hours to 17. Second semester changes are to add the MRKG 1311 Principle of Marketing. The certificate credit hours will increase from 34 semester hours to 35. Approved changes to the Fitness Specialist Certificate are to replace KINE 1238 Intro to Physical Fitness and Sport with BIOL 1323 Human Nutrition or BIOL 1322 Contemporary Issues in Nutrition. This increases the required certificate credit hours from 16 to 17 hours.
