Meeting & Agendas

Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Kerry Coombs. Everyone introduced themselves

Dr. Bohmfalk motioned to approve the agenda. Suzanne Williams 2nd the motioned the agenda was approved.

Pat Recek motioned to approve the minutes to the October 6, 2016 minutes with two corrections. Sara Yaffe’s last name was corrected to Sara Ervin under Members present. And on item two 1.”Relationship of the Veterinary Technology Program and the Veterinary Assistant Program”

• a. Update – building is coming along. The drywall is finished, ceiling tiles are almost complete. The brick is almost all up. The air-conditioning will be turned on tomorrow. Building should be finished in December. We will have to wait until we get the Certificate of Occupancy to use the building. The landscaping needs to be finished in order to get the certificate. Classes for the spring semester have been scheduled for the new building. The new building budget comes with a Full-time faculty, a new LVT position to assist with labs and take care of animals, Hourly money to hire students to care and feed animal. • Curriculum changes: no more medical terminology, Datiya seems to think that it is needed as. Medical terminology was added to VTHT 1413 A & P. Elizabeth Warren asked if 4 weeks of the A & P class could be used for medical terminology. Dr. Bohmfalk stated that no because A & P is pretty tough and cannot cut out 4 weeks of the materials needed to be covered. Pat Recek suggested that we contact Steve Self, Librarian to see about medical terminology e-books.

• Math 1314 College Algebra: As a division we need to come up with a math course from the core list of math courses. The objective for students take only courses that are required to graduate. We are trying to guide the students to take courses that will transfer. Selecting a math course from the core list of math classes insures that the course will transfer to a four year institution. The course is part of the 42 semester hours of the core curriculum needed to transfer to 4 year institutions. • New committee members: we need new committee members, we need LVT’s, Veterinarians, Pharmaceutical representatives, people in various aspects of the field, and/or recent graduates. We need input to improve the program. To improve attendance we need to send out meeting notices 6 to 8 weeks before the meeting. Send weekly reminders and a reminder the day of the meeting.

We will be having an Open house to our new building. Once we know the date we will send out an invite.
