1. Emily presented on #1 explaining that the credit requirement changed by Texas State which forced us to reocmmend to remove Interpreting Certificate. Because this prpoosal was denied by Programs & Curriculum Committee, we revisited the certificate and made several changes to provide support for those who already have Bachelor’s and/or Master’s to prepare for their interpreting certification (BEI or RID). Erin suggested to keep Educational Interpreting class. Bobby asked why was Educational Interpreting course removed and substituted with Specialized Settings. Lynne explained that this course includes Educational Interpreting and several other settings. Often interpreter students ask for specialized settings to apply their skills in real life.
Lisa Anderson proposed to vote for Interpreting Certificate 2018-2019.
Diane seconded.
All (6) voted yes.

Lynne explained that the Introduction to the Interpreting Profession coures has a lot of detailed information on the interpreting history, process itself, ASL, Deaf Culture, Deaf Community, and it requires a lot of basic knowledge in prior to taking this course or students would be lost. , ASL 3 would be a great fit. Bobby shared his concerns that the students would have heavier loads later in their coursework if this course is requierd to take after ASL 3. Fallon explained that there are only two courses students can take simulatenously while taking ASL 1-4. Therefore it wouldn’t create a new problem.
Lisa proposed that we modify the prerequisite to pre-req of ASL 3 for Introduction to the Interpreting Profession
Diane seconded.
All (6) voted yes.

Ginger:
Offer more certificates such as Medical Interpreting certificate, Mental Health Interpreting certificate, etc that would benefit those interpreters who need CEUs to continue their education. ASLIT team responded that it would be great and yet challenging due to low enrollment for these courses and finding qualified professors to teach these classes. It was agreed that these certificates should be considered: trilingual, specialized interpreting, CDI, legal, mental health, medical, VRS, DeafBlind.
Diane:
Suggested to offer more online classes. ASLIT team explained that there has been an increase in the number of sections of online courses we offer, but we are not ready to offer the entire program in online yet. It is in our plan.
Lisa:
Provide more trainings or incorporate more lessons on VRS interpreting in our courses that include general knowledge and information for VRS interpreters to be prepared to interpret (pop culture, geography, current events, etc).
