ACC GIS Committee Chair George Strebel welcomed attendees.

ACC GIS Department Chair Sean Moran updated the Committee on enrollment, ACC Incubator, GEOG 2470 Introduction to GIS academic status, and Highland Phase II using the following slides. Mr. Moran also highlighted the ESRI Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) distinction awarded to ACC GIS at the 2016 ESRI International User Conference by presenting ESRI SAG certificates to each committee member.

The committee briefly discussed the final draft of the GIS Advisory Committee Bylaws. A few suggestions were offered including allowing the Chair to call for an electronic vote. There was also additional discussion on how to ensure continued (or even greater) committee member diversity and the process for resigning from the committee. One suggestion was that committee members who vacated a committee position should recommend a candidate for filling that vacancy. Lastly, there was some discussion on how committee members who vacated their position could remain engaged. Mr. Moran mentioned opportunities like the ACC GIS Student Showcase, mentoring, and continuing education as possibilities. Committee Member Stephanie Jensen made a motion to approve and Committee Member Mike Ouimet seconded it. The motion made by Committee Member Stephanie Jensen to “approve the GIS Advisory Committee Bylaws with suggested changes” was approved by unanimous vote.

ACC GIS faculty member Sally Holl led a discussion on the GIS Level I Certificate Course Learning Outcomes. She explained that the Committee had revised and approved the ACC GIS Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes (PSLO) in 2012. ACC GIS faculty were now seeking the Committee’s input on Course-Level Student Learning Outcomes (CSLO). She asked committee members to break into small groups and review the ACC GIS CSLOs for the GIS Level I Certificate. After reviewing the CSLOs, committee members provided feedback that was incorporated into the current GIS Level I Certificate Course Learning Outcomes.

Sean Moran gave a quick update on the GIS Department Relocation to Highland Learning Center.
