CCSSE Subcommittee Report The CCSSE report is an assessment of country wide national survey of community colleges for comparison of where we are and what is happening in our college compared to others of the same size in other parts of the country. a. Raising Awareness – What results are encouraging b. Reflection c. Collaboration The subcommittee wants to present workshops to different groups in the college to see what the results are and what we need to be doing. The data is online. The subcommittee selected a small subset for consideration. Subcommittee wants to make contacts and help present and facilitate workshops. Tobin explained the ACC Benchmarks of Effective Education Practices scores 2003 – 2007. d. Small Group Sessions SASC gathered in small groups and discussed the results of the survey and made suggestions as to how improvements could be made. e. Feedback and General Discussion Soon suggests bringing information to students to get them involved. Students will be doing SENSE survey the first part of fall semester. One of the things ACC must do is communicate “advising” more clearly. Many students may not understand “orientation”, “advising”,”career counseling” because they do not come from a college-going culture. Terry Bazan suggested Advising Groups who help the students, then register for them. Soon needs Developmental Education responses and we have the capability as soon as Rich can do it. Tobin wants to have a basic set-up for the presentation so that students may be able to present the information of the survey to others. Mike Reid has scheduled a meeting with Student Government Association and has contacted Phi Theta Kappa. Soon wants to let students know that surveys are for improvement to better serve students. ACC will use three different surveys (CCSSE, SENSE, NOEL LEVITZ) to get information as to what students need. Loretta Edelen asked if ACC has the data from surveys to show what was needed and what has done about it. Soon says the results from the surveys that show what improvements ACC has made due to those needs are not available yet. The data available at this time is what the subcommittee wants to present to students, faculty, administrators and staff in order to receive feedback on what is actually needed. The feedback will identify areas ACC can impact with a focus on a few. Richard says the focus should be across the board to further engage the institution to prompt them to get involved. Students become engaged in different ways. Gaps should be focused on and shown to areas of ACC to be improved. Mike Reid reported that the Collaboration and Student Dishonesty policy has been changed so that students can collaborate. Thoughts about the CCSSE process to be the group to get the survey information to all ACC groups. SASC is to present to ACC groups. Stacey Stover suggested going to Department Chair meetings first to engage the departments first. Soon asked if SASC would like to be involved in a mentor program? The federal government wants to measure graduation.
