Guided Pathways
Presenter
Stacey Shackelford
Minutes
Guided Pathways Goals
•• Improve student academic outcomes and accelerate completions
•• Develop an intentional and structured educational experience that informs
students' choices without limiting options
•• Access the labor market more quickly
Guided Pathways components:
• Connection - Interest to Application
• Entry - Enrollment to completion of Gateway courses
• Progress - Entry into course of study to 75% of requirements complete
• Completion - Course of study to credential with labor market value
Discussion:
• Larry Elsner asked if Pathway was available for just high school students or
any ACC student who don't know what they want
• Gale commented that pathways is a redesigned for academic entry to
support guidance toward courses relative to interests.
• Stacey replied the purpose of the pathway model is to give more information
for career choices and options. The student success course EDUC 1300
also included 'soft skills' needed for college such as study habits,
technology basics, and setting career goals.
• David Zuniga added the Pathways model is more proactive for students
because assigned advisors will be knowledgeable in three areas of study
so they can provide comprehensive information regarding specific
programs. Caseloads for advisors are to u p to 150 students; advising will
be more intensive including monitoring students' success to increase
completion. Each campus for every single program will have someone that
can advise.

Educator Academy
Presenter
Stacey Shackelford
Minutes
The purpose of the Educator Academy is to establish a clear and coherent pathway for high school students interested in pursuing a career in education.
Educator Academy Goals
• Increase the number of childcare and public school teachers in the greater
Austin area
• Recruit high-quality students for the teaching profession
• Provide clear sequence of courses; stackable credentials
• Vertically align career path (high school, ACC, university)
• Connect students to jobs or transfer opportunities
Discussion:
• Stacey explained the Educator Academy includes high school juniors or
seniors interested in a career in education. The Education Instruction
dept and Child Development will work together to provide common courses
for the first semester to the high school cohort, then students select their
pathway choices in the second semester (child care or public school). By
the time the student graduates high school they would have completed the
CDA Preparation Training Certificate (18 hrs) or completed a significant
portion of their AAT, posing them ready for academic transfer to a 4 year
university.
• Michelle Crawford asked if the 18 hrs CDA Preparation Certificate just for
high school students or for everyone to the 18hrs program. (It is for any
Child Development major)
• Dr. Phan explained the TECA courses offered in the Academy are
designated for students wanting to transfer to a university.
• Patsy commented that the two-hour capstone course in the new certificate is
for students who will be working on their CDA portfolio
• Stacey confirmed that the Educator Academy is for high school juniors and
seniors who are interested in entering the workforce in child care. The
benefit is to have high school grad uates entering the workforce with having
taken child development courses.
